“Are you going to talk about what happened this morning?” Damen drawled as we finished up at the borders.

The patrol noticed some disturbance earlier in the day, and I’deviously asked to be informed of any such problems. We spent the last hour trying to make sure that it wasn’t anything dangerous.

We concluded that it may just have been someone who lost their way. It wasn’t unusual to have rogues or stragglers pass by too close to the pack.

I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye. “What are you talking about?”

“Your mate,” he said simply. “She almost left today. I saw you taking her bag back upstairs.”

“There’s nothing to talk about. She’s at home, isn’t she?”

“That doesn’t mean she didn’t try to leave.”

Leaning back into the seat, I crossed my arms over my chest and turned to face him. “Since you want to do a heart to heart. why don’t you tell me about you and Scarlett? How’s that going?

There was a slight tick in his jaw. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

“Exactly.” I started the car before continuing. “Leave her alone, Damien.”

“Who? Daisy? Trust me, I would be an idiot to go anywhere near your mate.”

“I wasn’t talking about Daisy.”

He fell silent instantly and wouldn’t meet my eye.

I hated getting involved in matters that concerned two adults. It was none of my concern and it was very exhausting, but in this case, it was necessary.

“I can’t have you fucking things up a second time.”

He scoffed. “Who says I fucked it up the first time?”

“I know you, and I know her. She’d been pining after you for months, maybe even years, she wouldn’t fuck it up.” I exhaled deeply. “I’m not going to tell you what to do because you’re a bastard and you’ll do the opposite just to spite me.”

He laughed but didn’t deny it.

“Things are fine for now, and I would appreciate it if you left it that way. Besides, Scarlett is my cousin. Hell, she’s my sister. If you hurt her again, I don’t give a fuck that you’re my Beta, I’ll ring you up by your fucking toes. Do you understand?”

He nodded. “Yes, Alpha.”

The rest of the drive went by in perfect silence.

I still had so much to do, but I wanted nothing more than to return home. Leaving Datsy alone atter a very emotional morning like today was not my first option, but the work of an Aha never We had one more stop near the border, and we’d just arrived when all of a sudden, I felt something shift. “Do you feel that?” I asked Damien who was already half way out of the car

He turned to me with furrowed brows. “Feel what?”

He looked around warily before slowly shaking his head. “I don’t feel anything. Are you sure that you’re okay?”

I knew I was, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something else was terribly wrong. The more I tried to ignore it, the worse

it got, until the feeling got so strong that I couldn’t fucking breathe.

“What the hell is going on?” I asked my lycan. “Is there a threat?”

“Yes.”

“Where?”

“I don’t know.”

I groaned aloud. “You can’t tell me there’s a threat and not tell me where it is. How the fuck am I going to fix it?”

“I’ve told you what I know, okay? I can just feel it. I don’t know what else you want me to say.”

I had to take a deep breath when I realized that even he was as confused as I was. I’d never felt anything like this in my entire life and it worried me. If there was a threat then I had to get back to Daisy as soon as-

“Daisy!” he exclaimed aloud. “The threat is Daisy!”

I didn’t bother asking if he was sure, I could feel that he was.

“Get back into the car!” I growled at Damien.

He didn’t protest, he just did as I asked and slammed the door shut. “Where are we going?”

“Call Scarlett and tell her to meet us at my house. Something is wrong with Daisy.”

Damien glanced at me out of the corner of his eye, not fully convinced. “How do you know that though? You’re not mated. It’s not like you can feel her.”

“I can’t.”

He sighed. “Maybe you’re just being paranoid.”

“I’d rather be fucking paranoid and proven wrong than let something happen to her. Make the damn call.”

He did as I asked while I floored the gas.

The border was so far from the house. There was no way I’d ma it in anything less than forty five minutes, but that didn’t stop me from trying.

I was one wrong move away from abandoning the car and shift. The only thing that stopped me was the knowledge that my lycan would take over. He was a lot less logical than I was, and even if he were to find out that Daisy wasn’t hurt, the chances of him attempting something was high.

We were finally in a good fucking place and I wasn’t going to let in ruin that

“Has Scarlett said anything?” I asked Damien after about twenty intes. “She should have gotten to the house by now.”
