Lucas’ jaw clenched at my words. He turned to leave, but at the 1st second, he turned. I didn’t see his hand move until it struck my cheek.

The hit was so fierce that it sent me flying to the ground. With my hands still bound, there was no way to brace my fall and I could’ve sworn I heard something crack as my head hit the rock terrain.

My ears rang and I tasted blood, but I refused to let him see just how affected I was it.

I forced a smile on my face. “Does it make you feel powerful when you hit girls?”

“Gag the bitch!” he ordered. “We need to move out now.”

One of the guards approached with a dirty looking rag. As soon as his hands were within reach, I bit down on his fingers hard enough to draw blood. He cursed, throwing me backwards. My back slammed hard into a tree.

“I said gag her, not throw her around,” Lucas snapped. “What’s taking so long?”

The guard lifted his blood stained fingers. “She bit me.”

“I don’t give a fuck if she cut your dick off, gag her.”

He eyed me warily, but all I did was wink at him. If they wanted to play dirty, then so was I.

“If you touch me, I’ll bite you again,” I said simply. “This time, I won’t let go until I take off a finger.”

He growled low.

I opened my mouth to speak but felt a sharp tug on my hair from behind. A loud cry left me, and the guard used that as the opportunity to shove the rag in my mouth and secure it behind my head.

He grinned triumphantly. “That shows you, bitch.”

“Stop gloating and load her in the car. We need to get out of this pack before anyone notices,” Lucas instructed. “We don’t have much time-”

“Alpha, we may have a problem!” someone yelled out. “The pack is on lock down.”

Lucas went deathly still. “Excuse me?”

“The lycan knows she’s missing. He has shut down the entire pack until she’s found.”

Lucas cursed loudly, his hands fisting by his side. “I thought you said you would distract him at the border.”

“We did! He just left the border abruptly with his Beta according to our source and he started heading home.”

I could have sobbed in relief.

“You managed to reach out to him, didn’t you?” I asked my wolf

It took a second, but she hummed. “I tried.”

She sounded weak. She hadn’t spoken since our last discussion the house.

“Thank you,” I whispered. “You may have just saved us.”

She didn’t respond, but I could feel her appreciation. Whatever he did must have taken a lot out of her because I could

Lucas and his men were still arguing between themselves, trying to find out what to do now that their plan was soiled.

They were in a circle in front of me, talking over themselves and I decided to use the opportunity to try and escape. I scooted back a little, trying to find something I could use to und the bindings on my feet. If I could get rid of that, I could

run.

When I realized that wasn’t working, I decided to drag myself as far away from them as possible. If I could just hide, perhaps the flowers and the trees around would mask my scent enough for them not to find me.

I’d barely managed to drag myself a few steps away when I accidentally snapped a twig.

Their conversation ceased immediately and their eyes snapped over to me.

“Where do you think you’re going, Daisy?” Lucas sneered as he made his way over to me. “I didn’t say you could leave.”

He grabbed me by my hair and dragged me across the forest floor. My scalp burned and tiny twigs and stones embedded themselves into my skin. The only thing that kept me from crying out was the gag over my mouth.

“We can’t stay here,” Lucas said to his men. “We need a place for cover. Peter’s house is a good place to stay. Let’s move out.”

Peter? Who the fuck was Peter.

“I don’t know,” one of the guards began slowly, causing everyone to stop.

I could’ve sworn I saw Lucas’ eye twitch. “Excuse me? Are you disobeying an order?”

“No, Alpha, but Peter’s house is too obvious. It’s the first place I would check if I was the lycan.”

“Are you the lycan?” Lucas asked, his voice deathly cold.

The guard swallowed deeply. “No, sir, I’m just trying to offer my advice.”

Lucas laughed lowly, releasing my hair. I fell to the ground unceremoniously and when a stab of pain went up my shoulder, I knew I must have dislocated it.

He walked over to the guard until they were standing toe to toe. It was a bit amusing considering this guard was taller and bigger than Lucas was. He could take him out if he wanted to, but instead, he bowed his head to the ground.

“Remember your place. You don’t call the shots out here.”

The guard nodded. “Yes, Alpha.”

“Good.”

Lucas clasped him on the shoulder, and then I saw it, the flash of metal. It was so quick that before I could make a sound, the guard was crumpling over as Lucas stabbed him repeatedly in the gut.

He fell to the ground beside me, clutching his side and gasping for breath, but no one moved to help him. His eyes were wide open and frantic and when they finally landed on mine, I pity for him.

I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t, because no one, not even, deserved to die alone. I held his gaze, offering silent solace with my eyes.

Maybe I was imagining it, but I could have sworn I saw a silent apology before everything went cold.

“The next person who forgets their place will end up like him!” ucas warned. “Now let’s fucking move out.”
