I was loaded into the back of another car and driven through the woods until we arrived in front of a simple looking bungalow.

Lucas position his knife by my side before undoing the bindings on my feet and pushing me to my feet.

“Any funny business and I’ll gut you like a fish,” he warned. “I’d rather not have to, but I’m not taking any chances around here. Am I clear?”

I nodded. “Crystal.”

“Good, now move.”

He shoved me forward and into the house.

The first thing I realized was that it lacked a personal touch. It was clearly lived in, but there weren’t any pictures or personal

items.

“Spread out and keep an eye on all the exits,” Lucas ordered his guards. “Once the security goes down, we’re out of here.”

They nodded, immediately spreading out to do as he’d asked and leaving the two of us alone in the living room. My hands were still tied, and on a good day, I could’ve at least tried to hold my own, but he still had a weapon and he’d shown that he wasn’t afraid to use it.

Judging by the way he paced across the living room, running his fingers through his hair and murmuring small curses under his breath, things weren’t going his way. If only I could get into his head, perhaps I stood a chance of getting out of here

alive.

“Was all this necessary?” I asked slowly. “Coming to get me I mean.”

He stopped pacing and turned to me. “Shut up.”

“You already won. You had the fucking sex tape. I was gone.”

“You were with him,” he hissed. “Did you think I’d really sit back and watch you whore yourself out with the king? Then what? You’d come to my pack and I’d have to bow to you? Like h11.”

I scoffed.

So that’s what this was about… power. He couldn’t stand the facthat I was beneath him and now, I’d be his superior. It was never about saving the integrity of the pack, it was about making sure I remembered my place.

“He’s going to kill you once he finds you.”

Lucas said nothing, so I took that as an opportunity to keep speaking.

“Even if you get out of here alive, he is going to come to the pack and he will not rest until you’re dead. If you hand me back

now-”

“Stop fucking talking!” he screamed, brandishing the knife in my face. “You think I don’t know he’s going to come after me? I’m not as stupid as you think I am. All I need to do is get out of ere, I have friends in high places, friends that will do anything to get their hands on a lycan king”

He smiled cruelly, as if remembering something

I was about to ask what he meant when it hit me.

This whole time, I’d been thinking about my revenge when I should have been thinking about Kai’s. With everything that happened. I’d forgotten all about the threat.

“It’s you, isn’t it?” I concluded. “You’re the one working with the unters.”

He shrugged, but the slight tug of his lips told me everything I needed to know.

Perhaps it was wrong, but I felt relief knowing that Kai was wrong. It wasn’t my father behind it… it was Lucas.

“Why would you do that? You know how hard we have worked to keep our world away from the humans. What could you possibly gain from working with hunters? You risk exposing everyone.”

“There’s a lot you don’t understand, Daisy,” he whispered. “One day, you’ll all see the bigger picture.”

“There is no fucking picture! They’ll double cross you. Hunters can never be trusted. You know that! Your father taught us as much when he was-”

One second, he was laughing on the other side of the room, and the next, he was leaning over me, his arm pressing harshly against my throat and the blade of his knife trailing gently over my cheek.

“Don’t you dare talk about my father,” he growled.

When I didn’t speak, he pushed the tip of the blade into my skin ever so slightly. The silver burned, but I bit hard on my tongue, determined not to make a sound.

“Your lycan may have let you get away with shit but I’m not him he warned. “I’ll cut out your fucking tongue if you piss me

off.”

“Understood,” I managed out.

He stared at me for a minute longer before releasing me.
