Every time I tried to bring up the conversation again. Kai was quick to shut it down.

It didn’t matter what tactic I used: pleading, manipulation, anger his choice was made, and despite understanding why, it pissed me off.
A knock on the front door snapped me out of my sulking. When I pulled the door open, I found Scarlett on the other side.
“Can I come in?” she asked, a small smile on her face.
I nodded, stepping to the side for her. As soon as I shut the door behind her, she pulled me into a tight hug.
“It’s so good to see you,” she whispered. “I’m so glad you’re okay
I didn’t know how to respond to that so I just hugged her back. I felt like a lifetime had passed between yesterday and today, and sometimes, I felt like it was a fever dream.
“Where’s Kai?” she asked and I shrugged.
He disappeared into his study after the tenth time of me asking to see Lucas and hadn’t returned since.
“Forget about him, how are you feeling?”
Once again I shrugged because I felt numb. “I took off my brace today and my shoulder seems fine. I still haven’t spoken to my wolf yet, but I think she’s good.”
“I wasn’t asking about your wolf, Daisy,” she frowned, leading me into the living room. “I want to know if you’re good. What happened to you-”
“It doesn’t feel like it happened to me,” I admitted. “I think it hasn’t hit me yet.”
“That’s understandable. Everything happened so fast.” She paused for a moment before adding. “How exactly did it happen?”
I recounted the story as best as I could from the moment I heard noise in the house to being taken away. She listened intently, leaning forward on her elbows to show that I had all of er attention. By the time I was done, she cursed aloud.
“I’m really sorry that happened.”
I didn’t want to keep talking about it so I quickly changed the subject. “Do you want muffins? Kai made some this morning with pancakes. I don’t think there are any pancakes left though.”
“Kai baked?” she asked and I nodded. “Damn, he must be really worried about you.”
I cocked my head to the side in confusion. “What do you mean?
“My aunt-Kai’s mum-used to bake whenever she was stressed or worried. Kai got that from her. Whenever he doesn’t know how to deal with a situation, he bakes. I should’ve known when he asked me to come over”
I was taken aback. “He asked you?”
“Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to come,” she added quickly. “Buhe was adamant that nobody bother you today. I planned to come tomorrow but he called and-”
“Give me a minute.”
I didn’t wait for her to respond before I rushed out of the living om and down the hall

Kai’s office was near the back door, it had a beautiful view that overlooked the gardens. I didn’t bother knocking, I just pushed the door open. He sat by the window, his head buried in his hands. As soon as he heard me though, he looked up.
“Daisy” He shot to his feet. “Are you alright? Isn’t Scarlett around”
“She is, but that’s not why I’m here.”
I shut the door and slowly made my way over to him. His eyes tracked my every movement carefully. I stopped in front of him, leaning against the window ledge. His hands reached out for me subconsciously, resting on my hips as he guided me to stand between his legs.
For a moment, all thought flew out of my head. This was the closest I’d been to him in a casual setting. My heart threatened to hammer out of my chest and keeping a grip on my emotions was proving to be harder than I thought.
“This is okay, right?” he asked and I nodded slowly.
It was more than alright. In fact, I wanted to be closer to him. I don’t know where the need came from, but it rose in me like a flame. It was as if the past few days had stripped away the wall d built between us. Now, I couldn’t bring myself to fight the bond.
“You wanted to talk to me, princess. Is everything okay?”
That snapped me out of my thoughts quickly.
“Yes, it’s about seeing Lucas.”
He groaned, leaning back into his chair. His hands left me and I frowned, feeling the cold from the loos.
“Princess, I thought we already had this discussion multiple times this morning. It isn’t going to-”
“I know you’re worried about me,” I cut him off. “I know you want to keep me safe from Lucas and everything that happened. Maybe you even feel bad or partly responsible.”
He frowned, but I saw a light tick in his jaw letting me know I was on the right track so I continued.
“You’ll be right there with me the entire time. I don’t want to kill him myself, you were right about that part. I don’t have it in me to take a life, but I need to see him. It doesn’t feel real yet, and I just… I think seeing him will put things into perspective.”
He sighed deeply. “I don’t want you around him, Daisy.”
“I know that, but I deserve one last moment of clarity before all of this is over. You know that I do.”
He didn’t respond immediately, he just stared at me for a full mute. I shifted awkwardly under the intensity of his gaze, but I didn’t back off.
“Plus, if you don’t, I’ll find a way to see him myself,” I added.
That earned me a small smile from Kai. “Believe me, I know.”
“I need you to do this with me, Kai,” I dropped my voice to a whper. “Please.”
