Chapter 57
Chapter 57
I didn’t need to ask who he was. I knew exactly what he was talking about.
“You killed him?” I asked and Kai nodded.
“I debated calling you. I thought about letting you watch the life eave his eyes.”
I swallowed deeply. “Why didn’t you?”

“Because I don’t want you to be forced to remember that image want you to remember him as broken, bruised and hanging in that cell.”
I tried to conjure up an emotion, but I came up blank. I felt nothing. I think a part of me had already begun to think of Lucas as dead, so this news didn’t come as a shock. I knew it was only a matter of time.
“What happens to the pack now?”
“Damien left this morning. He should already be there. The troops are going to hold down the fort for me until tomorrow.”
I blinked, unsure if I heard right. “What?”
“I have to go tomorrow, Daisy. If I want to keep control of that pack, I need to be there. This is the only chance I have. If someone else takes over, I’ll lose their intel on the hunters.”
I understood his reasoning, but that didn’t mean I was happy about it.
I tried to remind myself that there were greater things than how felt about him, but my stupid brain wouldn’t cooperate. In fact, the more I tried, the greater that knot in my throat grew. I took a step back, desperate for some air, but Kai reached out, grabbing my elbow.
“What is it?”
I shook my head. “It’s nothing, I’m fine.”
“Daisy, stop that shit and tell me what’s wrong.”
“You’re leaving.”
The words left my lips before I could stop them. I didn’t mean to sound childish and needy, but it’s how I felt.
“When I couldn’t reach you today, I was so fucking worried, I couldn’t breathe. If you go there, you’ll be busy and I-I’m just acting out, it’s fine.”
“Don’t do that,” he warned. “Don’t diminish your feelings for anything, not even me. You’re my mate, Daisy, you’re most important to me.”
I snorted. “The wellbeing of the werewolf kingdom is more important than how I feel.”
He didn’t hesitate before speaking. “No, it isn’t.”
“You can’t say that.”
“I’m the king, I can say whatever the fuck I want,” he said simply I’m sorry you couldn’t reach me. It’ll never happen again.”
I nodded slowly, not wanting to talk about it anymore. “We should get you cleaned.”
“Right,” he grimaced. “I have blood all over me. I’ll take a bath a

“Can I do it?” I asked softly.
His eyes widened in shock, but he nodded. “Of course.”

Taking his hand in mine. I led him up the stairs. He followed blindly behind me, like a puppy on a leash. If anyone could see us now, there was no doubt they’d be equal parts amused and horrified.
Once we were in the bathroom, I pulled his shirt off. It was soaked through with Lucas’ blood. I couldn’t even begin to imagine the things Kai must have done to him to get that much blood on him. I knew if I asked he’d tell me, but some things were better off not known.
I turned on the shower and watched as the pink water swirled in the drain.
“You don’t have to do this.” Kai whispered, but I ignored him, grabbing the washcloth and running it over his skin.
“I want to.”
He shuddered and didn’t protest anymore.
I could feel his eyes trained on me as I scrubbed every inch of him clean. The faint smell of blood still lingered in the air and I hated it. I didn’t want any reminder of Lucas, not even his blood.
Standing to my feet, I placed my hands on Kai’s shoulders to hold my balance and kissed him. His dick twitched against my lower stomach as he kissed me back, his tongue slipping into my mouth. His fingers tangled in my hair and he pushed me back against the glass door of the shower.
I was fully clothed, but I’d never felt more exposed. Everything stuck to me almost painfully, and I wanted it off.
“Kai,” I whined, pulling back. “Take it off, please.”
“I will, princess, I promise,” he kissed me softly. “But first, come with me.”
“Anywhere.”
“To your pack.”
It was like someone doused ice cold water on me.
I blinked, the haze of lust quickly wiping from my eyes. “Excuse me?”
Kai cursed, running his hands through his hair. “I know you said you never want to go back, and I’d understand if you don’t want to, but I’d like to do this with you.”
Lucas was dead, there was no reason why I couldn’t go back, but was terrified.
My father was still alive, there were still people in that pack who knew me… knew the tape. I’d worked so hard to forget that part of my life, why would I willingly walk back into it?
Then again, Kai would be with me.
“I don’t know,” I managed out.
