I didn’t wait for her to respond before grabbing Scarlett by the am and pulling her into the kitchen with me. I shut the door behind us to make sure Eva couldn’t listen in before focusing my attention on her.

“Get her out of here,” I hissed. “How the hell did she even knowd be back today?”

She shrugged. “It’s a pack, people talk. What did you expect?”

“I didn’t expect that she’d walk into my house and demand that we have a sleepover. Is this some weird lycan thing that I don’t understand?”

Scarlett shot me a bland look. “If you don’t want her here, then ask her to leave.”

“I don’t even know the girl.”

“Exactly.”

I realized that Scarlett was not going to help me in any way. With a resigned sigh, I headed back into the living room only to find Eva already eating the pasta bowl I’d left unattended. She lifted her eyes to me and smiled sheepishly.

“I hope you don’t mind, I decided to help myself,” she said sheepishly. “So, what’s on the agenda?”

I glanced at Scarlett who nudged me forward, nodding encouragingly.

“I didn’t expect to see you here,” I began slowly. “I also had a very long day and the plan was really just to go to bed. I didn’t plan for a sleepover.”

“That’s alright,” she waved me off. “I know my way around here. can feed myself and I know where the guest rooms are. You don’t need to do anything.”

“What she’s saying is that she wanted to be alone,” Scarlett cut in “I was going to leave as well.”

Her eyes widened in understanding. “Oh.”

Awkward silence stretched between us and for a moment, I actually felt bad for her. She looked so out of place on the couch, the bowl of food in her hands. A minute passed, then two, before she finally sighed.

“Seeing as we’re all here, it might be a good idea to just go along with it, right?” she asked. “When next will we ever be in the same place at the same time?”

If it were up to me… never. However, I was quickly running out didn’t seem to want to take the hint

Eva wasn’t a terrible person by any standard, but she was infuriating to be around. She was never silent enough to let someone else speak, and she spent the entire night telling me about storied from her and Kai’s childhood.

Perhaps it was my own jealousy and insecurities, but listening to her talk about my mate was not the way I planned to spend my night. By the time she finally fell asleep around two in the morning, I was fucking relieved.

I snuck into Kai and I’s bedroom and slept off the minute I hit ny pillow.

I woke up to the sound of shuffling and sat up just as the door opened. Eva stood there, a steaming mug in one hand and her eyes wide with surprise.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t know you were in here,” she whispered softly. “This is Kai’s room.”

“Exactly,” I hissed, grabbing his hoodie from where I’d placed it on the bed and pulling it over my head. “Where else would I be?”

“I just thought you’d be somewhere else until the mating ceremony.”

I dragged myself out of bed and crossed my arms over my chest “What are you doing here, Eva? Were you looking for something?”

“No, actually, I was awake and thought to see if the house had changed much. Kai and I spent so many summers in this room. It’s just as I remember it. Did you know that the first time got drunk, he carried me home and-”

“Respectfully, Eva, I don’t give a shit,” I snapped.

The words were out of my lips before I could stop them.
