My skin was buzzing with nervousness and anticipation as we drove towards the pack office.

me, wondering if we’d gotten the right place. The park
When the car stopped, I stared at the massive building in front office back home was a simple two story building with stone wall and chipped paint.
The building in front of me was a fucking skyscraper with multiple people going in and out at the same time. A few of them paused around the car, trying to hide their curious gazes as they peered in, hoping to see something through the tinted windows.
“Are you ready to do this?” Kai asked and I hesitated for a second before nodding slowly. “I’d believe that if your hands weren’t fucking shaking.”
He took my hand in his to prove his point. I hadn’t realized just how violently it was vibrating until he held on.
His skin was rough and callused, and his hands completely dwarfed mine. It was obvious I was dealing with a man who used his hands. I’d heard stories of the times he’d gone into battle, of how he ripped his enemies from limb to limb. It was hard to reconcile the man I’d heard so much about to the man in front of me.
He was kind to me… gentle even. I could feel his watchful gaze o me–probing, analyzing.
“What exactly are we going to do here?” I asked. “Am I just going to sit in your office while you work?”
His lips quirked. “No, I need to get some files.”
I could tell that there was something else he wasn’t telling me, but he didn’t give me the chance to ask before opening the door. I closed my eyes on instinct as the sunlight hit my face.
Kai helped me out, his hand still in mine while the other settled on my lower back. Shivers ran down my spine and electricity coursed up my skin, but I forced myself to not pull back. Everyone was watching. They weren’t even trying to hide the fact.
“They’re acting like they’ve never seen you with a woman before I mumbled.
“That’s because they haven’t.”
I turned to him in shock.
There was no way he’d never been with a woman before. Even from my pack I heard the stories about him, about the lovers he took. He was much older than I was, and in all honesty, I wasn’t sure how old he was, but the stories had been around for much longer than I had.
“Is there something you want to know, Daisy?” he asked, the corner of his lips tugging upwards as he tried to hide his smile.
He knew exactly what was going on in my mind.
“No,” I said after a moment of silence. “I’m good.”
I could’ve sworn I saw disappointment flash in his eyes, but it was gone before I had the chance to analyze it. He led me into the pack office, away from the prying eyes of the people, and when I walked into the massive building, my jaw dropped.
The inside was even more beautiful than the outside. There was secretary at the desk, speaking to people. The elevators chimed and antiseptic.
crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and a people stepped in and out and it smelled weirdly of fruits
“We run a legitimate business,” he explained as he led me towards an elevator at the far corner of the building.

“We deal in stock exchange and real estate in the human world keep our kind a secret, we have to blend in. The chances of a human coming here are slim, but it isn’t impossible. We’ve had a few of therm sneak in before, hoping for an escape from their lives or some kind of danger.”
“Do you send them back?”
He sighed deeply. “We have to, Daisy. We cannot risk letting a human stay here. Their minds are fickle things. If word gets out to the humans that we are not like them, they will kill us all, which is why we need to put a pin in your packs plans while we still can.”
I frowned at the mention of the Northern pack. Something about the way he said it grated on my nerves. It was almost as if he were implying that I was part of the ploy.
“It’s not my pack anymore.”
He paused in his tracks, slowly taking me in. “I suppose you’re right about that.”
The elevator had a pad to scan Kai’s hand.
It led us to the top floor and opened to reveal an office. There was a woman seated at the desk when we stepped out, and her eyes widened as she took us both in. She bowed to Kai, but I could see her watching me out of the corner of her eye.
“Alpha, your ten o’clock meeting is-”
“Cancel everything for the day,” he said, barely glancing at her as he led me down the hall towards a pair of double doors.
“But sir-”
She didn’t get to finish her sentence because he led me through the double doors and shut it behind him.
“That was rude,” I noted, but all he did was shrug.
The doors led to his office.
It smelled like him, and after taking it in, I could honestly see him working here. The walls were grey, and everything was in deep monochrome. It was a fairly simple office with a couch, a desk and a chair, and two massive bookshelves to my left.
