Breakfast with Daisy was the most peaceful part of my day.

We’d barely finished breakfast when the news of the curfew hit the pack and the response was instant. I’d made the mistake. of leaving my wall down and I felt the instant wave of confusion, worry and fear.

I headed into the office, hoping that my presence would calm the people, but all it did was fuel the whispers. No one came up to me directly, but I could feel their worry. The weight of it filled the entire office and affected the flow of work.

Daisy worked closely with me when we went out into the pack and towards the borders. My initial plan was to keep her away from all the drama, and safely at home, but she was adamantly against it.

“If I’m going to be Luna, then I have to be involved in the pack,” she’d said, her jaw set defiantly. “You can’t just lock me up in å tower like a damsel in distress.”

I’d sighed deeply. “That’s not my goal, Daisy.”

“Good, so take me with you.”

We spent the whole day going from border to border, speaking to the guards, and making sure every inch of the pack was protected. We set guards around the towns too, to enforce the curfew and ensure that no one wandered off, especially not rebellious teenagers.

“Is that the last of them?” Daisy asked, yawning slightly. “It feels like we’ve been out all day.”

“That’s because we have,” I told her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. “It’s almost six.”

“Curfew starts in two hours.” I nodded. “We should be heading home.”

“There’s one last place we need to be.”

Her brows furrowed. “Where?”

I didn’t respond, merely steered her towards the car.

She asked questions every other second, trying to figure out where we were going, but I stayed silent, fighting the smile that was growing on my lips the more curious she became.

She huffed into her seat after a few minutes, crossing her arms over her chest as she mumbled a few choice words under her breath. She grumbled until I pulled the car to a stop but refused to look up.

I laughed, getting out of the car and heading over to her side. “Come, princess.”

“Not until you tell me where the hell we are.”

“I brought you to one of my favorite places in the world.”

She looked up finally, and a frown set itself on her pretty lips. “You brought me to an unmarked house?”

“It’s not a house,”

I led her towards the front doors and knocked.

The door creaked open slightly, and once Jose saw me, he smiled wide and pulled the door open.

“Alpha, come in,” he whispered. “We’re all set.”

We stepped into the long and dark hallway. Daisy clutched my hand tighter. I could almost hear her heart beating through her chest. She didn’t speak, not until we got further into the house and all the lights came on at once.

“What the hell is this place?” Daisy asked, her mouth wide.

“This is my art gallery,” Jose said with a grin. “I don’t usually host dinners in here but when the Alpha asked, I couldn’t refuse. We have been friends since we were children. I couldn’t say no to him.”

Daisy said nothing. She just looked around at the art pieces lining the walls, taking in every thing with pure awe.

I led her towards the small table in the middle of the room and helped her into a seat.

“I figured you would love dinner with a view,” I told her. “I would have preferred a beach side view, but I wouldn’t want any restaurant staff to stay out late because of me. Jose lives above the studio so this isn’t out of the way for him.”

This is… thank you, Kai.”

“You’re welcome, princess.”

“What’s on the menu?”

“My special seafood pasta,” Jose said, placing a covered dish on the table. “Enjoy your dinner.”

Jose left us alone and Daisy and I ate our dinner in perfect privacy.

For once, we weren’t thinking about the things plaguing the pack, or the worries of the hunter. We were two mates enjoying a beautiful dinner with each other.

“We have four days until we’re mated,” Daisy said once we’d finished our meal.

“Are you doing a countdown, princess?”

She nodded, her cheeks flushing pink. “I’ve been counting down this entire month. I hate that it can only be done on a full moon.”

“It isn’t the same for

you

wolves?”

She shook her head. “We can get mated any day and anytime. We just need two consenting wolves.”

“I think it’s more complicated for us because the process essentially turns you into a lycan yourself. You’ll be just as strong and fast as I am.”

She went still. “It does?”

I nodded, shocked that she didn’t know.

I know Scarlett gave her books about the mating ceremony and all that it entails, it should have been in one of those books.

“Yes, princess. Lycans live far longer than the average wolf. We can have mates that are humans, and other species. The only way that the mating can work is if it makes you one of us.”
