Chapter 91
Chapter 91
I was on my feet in an instant, trying to grab my shirt off the ground.
“Stay here,” Kai told me and I snorted.
“Like hell. They were just attacked. You need me there.”
“No, I need you to be safe. Lock the doors and don’t go anywhere. I’ll be back as soon as possible.”

He brushed past me, heading for the door, but I was quick to side step him and I grabbed him by the crook of his elbow.
“Kai! You can’t just walk away from me.”
He sighed deeply before turning to me. His hands cupped my cheeks and despite his rapid breathing and the worry I could feel emanating from him, his touch was gentle. He stroked my cheek with his thumb once.
“I need you to stay put, Daisy, please. I have no idea what is happening out there and I will not be of much help if I’m thinking about how to keep you safe. I can’t think when you’re around.”
It was more vulnerability than I expected from him in the moment, and despite the fact that I wasn’t pleased with his choice, I could understand why. Reluctantly, I let go of his arm.
“Keep your wall down,” I said, taking a small step back. “I need to be able to reach you.”
He shot me a grateful look and pressed a soft kiss to my forehead. “I will. Lock the doors behind me. I have a key.”
I did as he asked, making sure that all the doors was properly locked. I sat in the middle of the living room wearing nothing but the oversized shirt. I tracked his emotions through the link, using it as an anchor to remind me that he was fine.
I wasn’t sure how long I sat there waiting for him, anxiously tapping my feet against the ground. I couldn’t bring myself to eat anything either. After about half an hour of waiting with no response, I headed to the kitchen for a drink of water. I’d just turned on the tap when I felt something shift in the air.
It was subtle, but a gust of wind blew and I smelled it. It was an unfamiliar scent, one I hadn’t smelled in a very long time: human. However, there was something off about it though; something almost dirty about the human scent.
Slowly, I reached for the knives on the counter. I hoped I would be able to grab one undetected. I’d barely even moved when I heard the person click their tongue.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” A loud click filled the air. “There’s this thing called a gun. I could blow your brains out before you even take a step.”
With a sigh, I relented on my mission, lifting my hands to show I meant no harm. “I’m going to turn now.”
I turned slowly.
I’d seen the man in front of me only once. He was in the video that Kai had shown me of my father. He looked more menacing up close and judging from the way he stared me down, it was clear that I wasn’t on his list of favorite people.
He had a gun in his hands and it was aimed straight at me.
“How did you get in? I locked all the doors.”
“You did, it was very smart of you actually, but I’ve had my fair share of experience with breaking into places.”
“Kai will be here soon.”

“We both know that isn’t true. He’s too busy with the attack that happened near the council home. It’ll take him maybe another hour to finally come back which means you and I can talk.”
I should have known that he was behind that attack. “What do you want?”
“You’re going to walk around the counter slowly and we’re going to sit in the living room. I really don’t want to hurt you, but any funny business at all, and I will shoot. A silver bullet can do a lot of damage to a wolf like you.”
If it were someone else, I may have called their bluff, but not him. He didn’t strike me as the kind of man who played games. I did as he asked, trying to ignore the weapon being pointed at my head.
“Would you like some water?” I asked and I could see the genuine shock and confusion on his face.
“Is this a fucking trick?”
“No,” I answered quickly. “I was just offering.”
He hesitated for a moment before nodding. I poured him a glass and carried it with me into the living room. I placed it on the coffee table and sat down, hands neatly folded in front of me. He stared at the glass for a long minute before lifting it to his lips.
“You’re a weird one, Daisy. I’m holding you hostage and you’re offering me water.”
I shrugged. “The way I see it, if you wanted to kill me, you would have done so by now. Why are you here?”
“You didn’t seem to be getting the other hints so I thought I’d pass the message in person. Have your people leave the Northern pack. If they don’t, I will send a team of hunters there and we will wipe qut every man, woman and child until no one is left standing. Do you understand me?”
“I do, but if you attack the Northern pack, you will have the full weight of not just the palace, but every other pack in the world on your back. One pack might be easy to defeat, but multiple? You’d be dead in minutes.”
He raised a brow, amusement coating his features. “You’re not at all what I expected.”
“What did you expect?”
“A docile woman. That is what Lucas said you were.”
I scoffed. “The girl Lucas knew is dead.”
“I can see that.” He leaned back in his chair, hands crossed over his chest. “You are now Queen. I have to say, it was a beautiful ceremony.”
“You were watching us.”
He nodded.
I could’ve sworn I was being watched during the ceremony, but I chalked it up to nerves and anticipation. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off all evening.
