Chapter 2
In all twenty-six years of my life. I had never seen someone act so arrogantly in front of me.
“What did you just say? You want me to say what?”
“Are you deaf? Say it loud-I’m a worthless bitch, I admit I was wrong!’ Can’t you even remember that?”
A slow smile crept across my lips. “Oh, I heard you loud and clear. Since you already know you’re a worthless bitch, then
do me a favor and get out of my face.”
Aubrey’s expression changed instantly. She realized I was mocking her and lunged at me, swinging her arms wildly.
Hilarious.
I was a black belt in Taekwondo. You think I’d be scared of her pathetic flailing?
I threw a side kick and sent her sprawling on the floor, screeching.
The crowd gasped in horror.
“Oh my god! She just attacked Miss Monroe!”
“Mr. Cruz is going to kill her when he finds out!”
“Not even God can save her now.”
Their panic didn’t faze me. The Cruz family owed everything to my mother’s support. There was no one in Asteria City I
had to be afraid of.
I slapped my card on the counter again and said to the clerk, “Ring it up.”
The clerk, clearly shaken, quickly ran the card and packed the dress.
I took the bag and turned to leave.
But Aubrey scrambled up from the floor and blocked my way. “You’re not going anywhere!”
I waved a hand in front of her face. “What now? You want another taste of my fists?”
She flinched instinctively. I sneered and walked toward the exit.
Just then, a black Maybach rolled up outside the store. The first thing I saw was a foot in sleek leather shoes stepping out
of the car.
I couldn’t explain the sense of salvation I felt in that moment. My eyes followed upward, and my heart skipped a beat.
He must’ve been at least six-foot-three, with broad shoulders, long legs, and a face sculpted like a masterpiece. Every angle was flawless.
Aubrey ran over sobbing.

“Mason, she stole the dress I liked and she hit me…”
So this was my fiancé.
I was a sucker for good looks, and Mason’s face was exactly my type.
For that face alone, I figured I could forgive his earlier rudeness.
I flashed what I thought was my most charming smile. “Hi, I’m Sloane Prescott. Your fiancée.”
No wonder my mom said I’d be satisfied with this engagement. She knew me too well.
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
“What? She’s Mr. Cruz’s fiancée?”
“Of course the fiancée would take priority over the god-sister! No wonder she was so bold!”
“Not necessarily! It all depends on who Mr. Cruz favors more.”
