Chapter 209: The First Hand

[Jake’s POV]

For the next forty-five minutes, I systematically dismantled the Grand Azure’s Baccarat table.

I wasn’t winning every hand—that would trigger the casino’s anti-cheat algorithms and bring down a swarm of security. Claire’s probability matrix was designed to be subtle. I lost small hands and won massive ones, creating a volatile, aggressive betting pattern that looked like the reckless luck of a bored billionaire.

My initial five million had swelled to just over twelve million. The rectangular plaques were stacked high in front of me, a physical monument to the Vanguard network’s processing power.

The atmosphere in the Lotus Lounge had shifted. The loud businessmen at the adjacent table had stopped playing, their attention drawn to the quiet, relentless destruction happening at my table. The floor manager, a severe-looking man with a tight jaw, was hovering nervously a few feet away, speaking quietly into his wrist microphone.

"You’re drawing a crowd, Julian," Claire murmured in my ear. "The floor manager just flagged your table to the upper management. They’re running secondary background checks on your alias right now."

"Let them run," I whispered, taking a slow sip of the scotch a waitress had brought me. "The Singapore legend is bulletproof."

"It is," Nia chimed in. "They’re hitting the dummy servers we set up. As far as the Grand Azure is concerned, you are exactly who you say you are. But you’re bleeding their high-limit room dry. They have to intervene soon."

The waitress circled back, refilling my scotch without being asked. Her hands were steady, but I caught the way her eyes flicked to the mountain of plaques.

No one tipped here. Tips were insulting. Instead, staff earned bonuses based on how long whales stayed.

That explained the quiet efficiency. Behind the bar, a sommelier polished crystal with a white cloth, moving in slow, practiced rotations. The HVAC exhaled cold air that smelled faintly of cedar and money. On the wall, a clock with no numbers ticked once every ten seconds. Time was measured in bets, not minutes. I let the ice clink against the glass and watched the floor manager sweat.

"Place your bets, sir," the dealer said, her voice tight. She was sweating, the pressure of dealing millions of dollars a hand clearly getting to her.

"Banker," Claire instructed in my ear. "Probability is seventy-two percent."

I pushed three million dollars in plaques into the ’Banker’ circle.

Before the dealer could draw the cards, a shadow fell over the table.

I looked up. Standing opposite me was a woman who commanded the room without saying a single word.

She was stunning, with sharp, aristocratic features and piercing, ice-blue eyes that seemed to analyze and dissect everything they touched. She wore a tailored, backless silver evening gown that clung to her tall, elegant frame. Her blonde hair was styled in a sleek, asymmetrical bob. She radiated an aura of absolute, untouchable wealth.

This was Lady Evelyn Jin. The Casino Queen.
