My Milf Conqueror System novel Chapter 77

Chapter 77: The Leash

The three special agents practically ran out of the conference room, the heavy glass door clicking shut behind them, sealing Evelyn and me inside.

Evelyn didn’t move. She stood by the table, her hands gripping the edge of the mahogany wood so tightly her knuckles were white. She looked like a woman standing on the gallows, waiting for the trapdoor to open.

I walked over to the window, looking out at the city skyline. The morning sun was bright, reflecting off the glass and steel of the Vanguard tower.

"You know," I said, keeping my back to her, "when you first walked into this building, I was genuinely terrified of you. You were the Inquisitor. The untouchable agent of the law. You had a Willpower that I couldn’t break with money, threats, or charm."

I turned around to face her.

"But Darius was right," I continued, leaning against the glass. "Everyone has a weakness. Yours was your own self-righteousness. You believed so deeply in your own moral superiority that you thought the rules didn’t apply to you when you were hunting a ’bad guy.’"

Evelyn finally looked up at me. Her dark eyes were filled with a complex mixture of hatred, shame, and a terrifying, dawning realization of her new reality.

"Are you going to gloat, Jake?" she asked, her voice bitter and sharp. "Are you going to stand there and tell me how smart you are? Just release the logs. Ruin me. Get it over with."

"I’m not going to ruin you, Evelyn," I said softly, walking back toward the table. "I told you before, I don’t ruin my assets. I utilize them."

I stopped in front of her, invading her personal space. The [Emperor’s Presence] radiated from me, pressing against her fractured willpower, demanding submission.

"You are going to walk out of this room," I commanded, my voice low and absolute. "You are going to tell your team that the files from the Seychelles server were corrupted and inadmissible. You are going to officially close the investigation into Vanguard Holdings and Aldridge Enterprises due to a lack of actionable evidence."

Evelyn’s jaw tightened. "If I close the investigation now, after mobilizing a federal task force, my superiors in D.C. will demand an explanation. They’ll audit my decision."

"Then you’ll give them an explanation," I said smoothly. "You’ll tell them the Aegis Mining deal was a fluke. A lucky guess by a highly aggressive hedge fund. You’ll bury the paperwork in bureaucratic red tape until they lose interest."

"And if I refuse?" she challenged, a final, desperate spark of defiance flaring in her eyes. "If I decide I’d rather go to prison than become your puppet?"

I reached out and gently tucked a stray strand of dark hair behind her ear. She flinched at the contact, but she didn’t pull away.

"You won’t refuse," I whispered, looking deep into her eyes. "Because if you go to prison, you lose everything. Your career, your reputation, your freedom. But if you work for me, you get to keep your badge. You get to keep hunting criminals. You just have to make sure you never hunt me, or anyone I protect, ever again."

I let my hand drop to her shoulder, my thumb resting against the base of her neck, feeling the rapid, frantic beating of her pulse.

"You are going to be my shield, Evelyn," I said, the words a dark, binding promise. "When the SEC looks in my direction, you are going to blind them. When a federal regulator asks questions about Vanguard, you are going to silence them. You are going to be the most powerful, untouchable Director of Enforcement in the history of the commission... and you are going to belong entirely to me."
