Chapter 92: Unleashing The Hound And Getting The Second Key

Saturday, 2:00 AM. The Georgetown Townhouse.

The burner phone rang three times before Evelyn Cross answered. Her voice was thick with sleep, but the underlying tension of a woman who knew she was owned by a monster was unmistakable.

"Jake," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Do you have any idea what time it is? The DOJ just raided Vanguard. My phone has been ringing off the hook for hours. The Attorney General is demanding to know why my office closed the investigation into Victoria Sterling last week."

"I know," I said, my voice cold and absolute, cutting through her panic. "Senator Hale is making her move. She’s trying to burn my empire to the ground. And she’s using your colleagues to do it."

"I can’t stop the DOJ, Jake," Evelyn said, her voice trembling. "I’m the Director of Enforcement for the SEC, not the Attorney General. I don’t have the jurisdiction to call off a federal raid."

"I don’t want you to call it off," I said, pacing the length of the study, the [Emperor’s Presence] radiating from me, ensuring my commands carried the weight of absolute law. "I want you to launch a counter-offensive. I want you to use the full, terrifying power of your office to tear a hole in Senator Hale’s armor."

"How?" Evelyn asked, the fear in her voice warring with the dark, submissive thrill of receiving orders.

"Marcus Thorne," I said. "The former CEO of Vanguard. He’s currently being held in a secure federal medical facility in Virginia, supposedly awaiting trial. But he’s not a prisoner, Evelyn. He’s a guest. Hale bailed him out so he could build her a new Oracle vault. And he holds the third biometric key to her slush fund."

"Thorne is under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Prisons," Evelyn protested weakly. "I can’t just walk into a federal medical facility and interrogate him."

"You can if you have credible evidence that he’s continuing to orchestrate massive securities fraud from his hospital bed," I said smoothly, the [Perfect Lie] skill feeding me the exact legal justification she needed. "You are going to draft an emergency, sealed subpoena. You are going to take a team of your most loyal, unquestioning agents, and you are going to raid that medical facility at dawn."

"Jake, if Hale finds out I’m moving against Thorne—"

"She won’t find out until it’s too late," I interrupted, my voice dropping to a dangerous, intimate whisper. "You are my hound, Evelyn. I am taking you off the leash. Go to Virginia. Kick down the doors. Isolate Thorne from his security detail, and then... you let me in."

There was a long, heavy silence on the line. I could hear her breathing, rapid and shallow. She was a woman who had spent her entire life following the rules, and I was ordering her to shatter them completely.

"Yes, Jake," she finally whispered, her Willpower completely broken, her loyalty absolute. "I’ll get the subpoena. I’ll clear the facility."

"Good girl," I said softly, and hung up.

I turned back to the room. Nia, Darius, and Ethan were watching me, their expressions a mix of awe and terror. They had just watched me order a federal director to commit a massive abuse of power as casually as ordering a pizza.

"Nia," I said, tossing the burner phone onto the desk. "I need the exact layout of that medical facility. Security protocols, camera blind spots, and the location of Thorne’s suite."

"I’m already on it," Nia said, her fingers flying across the keyboard, the exhaustion momentarily banished by the adrenaline of the counter-attack. "It’s the Oakridge Federal Medical Center. High security, but it’s designed for white-collar criminals with ’health issues.’ It’s more like a heavily guarded country club than a prison."

"Darius," I said, turning to my muscle. "You’re coming with me. We’re going to Virginia. We need to be in position when Evelyn breaches the front door."

"What about me?" Ethan asked, standing up from the sofa, looking eager to prove his worth after the terrifying reality check of the hit squad.

"You’re staying here with Nia," I said. "You’re the only one who has seen the inside of the Capitol Hill social scene. I need you to start working the phones. Call Sarah Jenkins. Call every staffer you bought a drink for. Start planting rumors that Senator Hale is under secret investigation by the SEC for misappropriating campaign funds. I want the Hill buzzing with paranoia by breakfast."

Ethan grinned, his charming, manipulative persona snapping back into place. "Consider the swamp poisoned, boss."

I looked at the three of them. My empire was burning, my CEO was in a cage, and a kill team was hunting me in the dark. But as I felt the System humming in my veins, I knew I wasn’t beaten.

I was just getting started.

Saturday, 6:00 AM. Oakridge Federal Medical Center, Virginia.

The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, casting long, grey shadows across the manicured lawns of the medical facility. It looked like a high-end private hospital, surrounded by a discreet but formidable wrought-iron fence and a heavily guarded gatehouse.

Darius and I were parked in a stolen, nondescript sedan half a mile down the road, hidden in the tree line. We were dressed in dark, tactical clothing, the [Silicon Ghost] skill passively masking our digital signatures from the facility’s perimeter sensors.

"Here she comes," Darius grunted, looking through a pair of high-powered binoculars.

A convoy of three black, unmarked SUVs roared down the quiet country road, their hidden red and blue strobe lights flashing silently. They didn’t slow down as they approached the gatehouse. The lead SUV simply smashed through the wooden barrier arm, the heavy reinforced bumper shattering the wood into splinters.

The convoy screeched to a halt in front of the main entrance. A dozen SEC agents in tactical gear poured out of the vehicles, led by Evelyn Cross. She was wearing a dark trench coat over her suit, her face a mask of absolute, terrifying federal authority.

She marched up to the glass doors, flashed her badge at the stunned security guards, and pushed her way inside, her agents swarming the lobby behind her.

"She’s in," I said, checking my encrypted phone. A single text message from Evelyn glowed on the screen: Lobby secured. Moving to the VIP wing.

"Let’s go," I told Darius.

We slipped out of the car and moved quickly through the tree line, approaching the rear of the facility. Nia had provided us with the blueprints. While Evelyn was creating a massive, loud distraction at the front door, locking down the administrative staff and the primary security detail, Darius and I were going through the loading dock.

We reached the heavy steel door at the back of the building. Darius pulled a specialized electronic lockpick from his tactical vest—a toy Nia had built for him—and jammed it into the keypad. Ten seconds later, the light flashed green, and the door clicked open.

We moved silently through the sterile, white corridors of the medical center. The alarms weren’t blaring—Evelyn had ordered the facility’s security chief to stand down under threat of federal obstruction charges—but the tension in the air was palpable.

We reached the VIP wing on the third floor. It was separated from the rest of the hospital by a set of heavy double doors.
