The moment Ray stepped into the police station and saw the first corpse, adrenaline surged through him like wildfire. It felt as though something deep inside him was awakening, ready to be born.
Now, that tension and unease intensified, becoming almost overwhelming. He hadn’t yet had time to process it when suddenly -a gust of wind slammed into him from behind!
In that instant, Ray entered an extraordinary state, almost transcendent.
He could see behind him.
No–not just behind him. It was as if he’d shifted into a god–like perspective, a vantage point like in a video game, where he could see everything around him.
Front, back, left, right, above, below.
And there it was: a massive black–and–white beast lunging from behind. Its speed was terrifying.
Ray knew he didn’t have a chance to dodge it conventionally. But his nervous system reacted faster than his body. The moment he “saw” the colossal creature approaching, he opened a 5×5 meter spatial portal directly behind him. The portal would shield him completely.
The god–view vanished as suddenly as it appeared. Ray spun around for a fleeting glance.
The beast–roughly the size of a lion, covered in thick fur, mostly black with patches of white–was staring at him.
And… it was a Husky.
A husky? That big? Lion–sized, probably as massive as a male lion!
Remarkably, the husky didn’t charge into the spatial portal. It seemed aware of its presence, sensing it somehow. It skidded to a halt, then cautiously backed up a few steps. Its low growl rumbled as it bared its teeth, yet every step was a careful retreat.
For a moment, Ray didn’t even consider why a Husky could grow to this size. He simply knew–this was the same beast that had killed and devoured the three bodies he’d found earlier.
A body this huge meant strength on a terrifying scale. One swipe of its paw could easily snap a human neck. Hesitation wasn’t an
option.
“Let’s see how you handle this,” Ray muttered.
Bullets poured from the spatial portal in a relentless stream. The husky clearly hadn’t expected this. It jumped and twisted to evade, but Ray didn’t hold back. Hundreds of rounds rained down in a dense, unstoppable torrent.
The beast was hit—but astonishingly, only once.
The bullet struck its rear, yet penetrated barely two centimeters. The tip of the round remained visible. Ray stared in disbelief. Damn… was that Husky’s coat made of ballistic material?
