Chapter 197
Ray couldn’t help but laugh. “I wouldn’t have guessed–you girls are actually pretty good in the kitchen.”
All the women turned to look at Lola at once.
“We just helped out,” they said. “Lola was the one doing the actual cooking.”
Ray was genuinely surprised. He hadn’t expected Bruce’s mistress to have such impressive culinary skills. Was this how she’d won his heart—by first winning over his stomach?
He nodded. “From now on, whenever we’re in the kitchen, Lola’s in charge. She’ll assign everyone’s tasks.”
No one objected. After all, Lola’s cooking really was excellent. That made her the head chef, and the rest could only assist.
Ray decided to rest for three days. First, he’d been on the move nonstop these past few days and needed a break. Second, he wanted to see whether the people in the neighborhood could actually track down Jon and his group.
However, that very afternoon, the bodies of Sunny and the other subleaders from Building 4 were brought over. After taking stock, only one person remained in hiding within the complex.
Jon.
Jon wasn’t even an ability user. What kind of trouble could he possibly stir up?
Ray never underestimated anyone, but there was no need to exaggerate a threat either by elevating an ordinary opponent to some absurd level.
Unfortunately, despite having absorbed three abilities in total, he hadn’t awakened any new powers. He wondered if it really required a life–and–death crisis to trigger one.
The day passed.
Fully rested, Ray walked into Katie’s room–only to find that Molly was there as well.
He was very satisfied. Though the sisters looked pretty similar, their temperaments were completely different.
One burned like fire, the other was as cold as ice–yet they were biological sisters.
Curious, he asked them about the case that had changed their lives.
Katie found it hard to speak, so Molly answered instead.
“Katie was in her second year of high school at the time. An after–school tutor had designs on her. He lured Katie to a hotel under the pretense of giving her extra lessons. She was too naive–she actually went.
“She drank the water that monster gave her and passed out immediately.
“Thankfully, she had the sense to send me a message beforehand. I rushed over right away, pretended to be a hotel staff member, and knocked on the door. I caught someone in the act of trying to assault her We struggled, and in the chaos, I stabbed him to death.”
Ray asked, “It wasn’t the tutor?”
“No.” Molly shook her head. “The tutor was just a lackey. He worked for the vice president of Greenbow Ciroup, using the tutoring center to scout out pretty female students for that than to abuse”
She continued, “That bastard’s name was Andy Nelson. His father, Paul Nelson, is the chairman of Greenbow Group. Relying on his wealth, every time Andy hurt someone, they’d throw money at the problem to settle it privately. If the victim refused, he’d threaten to release footage of the assault. So all the previous victims chose to accept hush money.

“My case was ruled excessive self–defense. At most, I should’ve gotten three to five years. But they fabricated a mountain of false evidence–claiming Andy was drunk, that he lacked clarity of mind, and that he didn’t have the strength to seriously harm anyone. In the end, I was sentenced to the maximum penalty.
“While I was in prison, Andy’s father personally came to see me. He threatened to go after Katie–said he’d make her… pregnant. After that, I made sure Katie stayed on campus at all times. She was never allowed to go out, never to give that monster a chance.
“So she only ever left campus to visit me. Even then, she stayed on a video call with her classmates the entire time, just in case that old bastard tried something.”
Ray clicked his tongue. “What about the tutor?”
