The real question was: once the Cameron family learned the delivery they’d eaten was worth eight thousand dollars, would they honestly hand over the money?

Ray only smiled. “All right.”

He stayed at Lemarea for dinner, then headed straight to meet Keisha for training at the gym. Before the extreme cold arrived, he needed to push his body as far as it would go.

“All right,” he said. “Tell us what’s going on.”

Fantasia jumped in first, recounting the story–but twisting it entirely, claiming Ray had poisoned the food.

The officers exchanged a look, momentarily thrown off.

“So what you’re saying,” Officer Blaise clarified, “is that Ray deliberately poisoned food he ordered for himself, for the purpose of harming you?”

“That’s right!” Fantasia insisted.

Officer Blaise gave a soft, incredulous laugh. “There’s no way the prosecutor’s office would accept that. And no court would hear it. You’re free to hire your own lawyer and sue him, of course–that’s your right.

“But the reason we’re here today is to investigate the theft of the delivery. Though honestly, there’s nothing left to investigate. You already admitted it.
