There was no need to finish the sentence. They had been trapped there ever since.

A thought stirred in Ray’s mind, and everything suddenly made sense. He now understood why an assassin had been sent after Bruce.

Bruce had an illegitimate son. Of course he’d want to pass Gemini Real Estate to his son. But would his wife’s family ever agree to that?

When billions in assets are involved, hiring an assassin was hardly strange.

If Bruce died, Gemini Real Estate would fall into his wife’s family’s hands. And the illegitimate son? They’d probably send assassins to get rid of him too.

Ray thought about it, then asked, “The photos you showed me earlier–don’t tell me that woman is your mistress?”

Bruce admitted it outright. “That’s right. She’s my lover. I’m old enough to be her father, but I chose her because she’s beautiful and a top student from a prestigious university. She can give my son the best genes.”

“I’m not hiding any of this from you,” he continued. “I just want you to understand that everything I’ve done is for one reason only–to keep my son alive.

“For my son, I can give up everything. And for him… I can also stake everything.”

That last line was no longer explanation. It was a threat.

Ray smiled faintly. “Bruce, are you declaring war on me?”

Ray thought, ‘If anything, you should be thanking me. I just dealt with an assassin for you.

‘Then again, with the disaster already here, Electra probably had no interest in continuing her mission anyway. Whatever. I didn’t kill her for you.‘

Bruce pondered for a moment, then laughed. “I have no desire to go to war with you, Ray. After all, your record these past few days has been… impressive. I still hope you’ll consider my proposal. I’ll give you my woman, and all you need to do is provide my son with enough food and water.”

Ray could accept trading directly with a woman if she chose to do so herself. But this high and mighty CEO, standing on moral high ground and playing the devoted father–how was he any different from those who tried to seize Ray’s resources by force?

“And if I refuse?” Ray asked calmly.

“You’d better not,” Bruce replied just as casually. “I brought two bodyguards with me—both former mercenaries. Barehanded, each of them can kill four or five grown men without trouble. Give them knives, and taking on ten wouldn’t be difficult.

“So, Ray, you’d be wise to accept my offer. That way, everyone wins.”

Ray smiled slightly, “Not a bad proposal. But don’t bring it up again. Goodbye.”

He hung up without hesitation.

Using his own woman as a bargaining chip disgusted Ray on a visceral level.

Maybe Bruce was a ruthless tycoon, but he was definitely not someone Ray liked.

Ray picked up his phone and issued another bounty–this time, targeting Bruce.

Bruce was far more dangerous than Sean. As a seasoned executive, he could persuade far more people with that polished rhetoric than Sean ever could with his cult nonsense.

Ray: [Bounty for one life. Name: Bruce Conor, CEO of Gemini Real Estate. Currently residing in our residential complex, accompanied by at least two bodyguards. I don’t care how many people it takes. Whoever kills Bruce will receive twenty boxes of instant noodles or equivalent supplies.]

He downloaded several photos of Bruce and posted them in the group chat.
