On our wedding day, the groom who was supposed to show up—Ethan Vale—never came.
All he left behind was a frail baby with a failing heart and a note.
Ethan:
I love you, Elena. But I fell in love with Summer too.
I couldn’t give her the Vale name, so to make it up to her, I decided to take her on a trip around the world.
I’ll give you a chance too, to raise the child Summer and I had together.
While we’re gone, let me and her baby keep you company.
I stared at the note and nearly laughed.
No ring. No respect. No marriage.
Why the hell would I raise their child for them?
Six years later, I showed up at a private terminal with my son to pick up my husband.
The second I turned around, I saw Ethan dragging a suitcase toward me.
His eyes lit up the moment he saw the boy.
“Elena, is that the child Summer and I had? You raised him so well.”
Then he smiled, like he was doing me some kind of favor.
“But Summer and I already got married in another country, so I can’t marry you now.”
“But don’t worry. In my heart, you’ve always been my wife.”
I looked at my son’s face—so painfully similar to his—and let out a soft laugh.
“Careful, nephew. Don’t go around claiming the wrong child.”
“This is your brother.”
The delight on Ethan’s face froze.
A second later, he frowned at me like I was the one talking nonsense.
“Elena, enough.”
“The wedding didn’t happen, sure, but your family accepted the alliance. How could you say something like that?”
“And my uncle has never been married. If he heard you talking like this, he wouldn’t be pleased.”
I almost wanted to laugh again at how righteous he sounded.
Our marriage had been nothing more than a merger between two dynasties.
As his fiancée, I had always played my role.
So when Ethan dared to run from the wedding, the Vale family was expected to send someone else to honor the alliance with the Moore family.
