My Runaway Groom Came Back I Became His Aunt! novel Chapter 2

Chapter 2

“Enough!”

Ethan cut me off with a sharp shout.

“Elena, I know you’re still angry that Summer and I shipped that brat off to you before we skipped town.”

“But Summer is his biological mother. Give him back.”

The moment he finished speaking, he shoved me aside and ripped Aiden out of my arms.

Aiden thrashed wildly, his little face turning bright red.

“Bad guy! Let me go!”

Ethan acted like he hadn’t heard a thing. He turned and stuffed the boy into Summer’s arms.

Her ridiculous nails scraped straight across Aiden’s soft skin, leaving angry red welts on his arm.

She acted like she didn’t even notice. Instead, she tightened her grip and cooed in that syrupy-sweet voice of hers.

“Baby, I’m your mommy.”

My heart clenched.

Ethan blocked me again, leaning in with that smug, careless tone I had always hated.

“Elena, all these years… did you really never miss me?”

Miss him?

I wanted him wiped off the face of the earth.

Then Aiden suddenly ducked his head and sank his teeth into Summer’s wrist.

She cried out and let go.

Aiden shot back to my side like a little cannonball, threw his arms wide, and planted himself between Ethan and me.

“Bad people! Don’t bully my mommy!”

Summer clutched her wrist, her eyes instantly reddening.

“Ethan, I know Elena still resents me for being with you back then.”

“But the child is innocent.”

“She must have taught him not to recognize us. Otherwise why would he treat me like this?”

That did it.

The second those words left her mouth, Ethan snapped.

He lunged forward, grabbed Aiden by the collar, and yanked him into the air.

“You dare lay a hand on your own mother? Fine. Today I’m going to teach you a lesson.”

Aiden’s face turned deathly pale. DHanging there, he kicked and struggled as his sobs broke into panicked gasps.

Then Summer dropped to her knees and clung to my legs, crying so hard it might have looked convincing if I didn’t know exactly what kind of snake she was.

“Elena, if you’re angry with me, then hit me, yell at me, do whatever you want.”

“But how could you deliberately raise my child into this?”

“It’s one thing if you won’t let him recognize me as his mother, but how could you teach him to hate his own father too?”

“Ethan has been thinking about you and the child all these years…”

Ethan turned toward me, his gaze cold enough to freeze blood.

“Elena Moore, I gave that child to you because I trusted you to raise him properly.”

“But instead, you taught him to deny his own parents. That’s vicious, even for you.”

“Now that Summer and I are back, of course he’s coming with us.”

“And from now on, you won’t interfere in his life again.”

I listened to him and felt nothing but bitter irony.

He was the one who abandoned a sick infant with a hole in his heart.

He hadn’t left instructions. Hadn’t left money. Hadn’t left anything.

He just ran off with Summer.

If Vincent hadn’t stepped in and married me, I would have become a joke in Chicago’s upper circles.
