Then, like a madman, he launched himself at her.
“You bitch!”
Summer flew at him too, clawing at his face, yanking his hair, laughing and crying all at once.
“So now you know that was your son?”
“But didn’t you throw yours away too?”
The room exploded into chaos.
Vincent rose to his feet and turned to look at me.
“That’s enough.”
“We have what we need.”
I kept my eyes on the screen for one last beat, then nodded.
“Open the door.”
The basement door swung open from the outside.
The lights snapped fully on.
Ethan and Summer recoiled from each other, two broken, pathetic shadows.
Vincent and I walked in together.
The second Ethan saw me, it was like he had finally found his last lifeline. He crawled across the concrete like a dog.
“Elena! Elena, I was wrong!”
“Summer lied to me! That crazy bitch tricked me! I never wanted to hurt you or the child!”
I stepped back half a pace and avoided his filthy hand.
Vincent moved in front of me and planted the sole of his shoe directly on Ethan’s hand before he could crawl any farther.
“Ahhh!”
Ethan screamed, his whole face twisting in pain.
Vincent looked down at him, his face a wall of stone.
“Begging is for the innocent”
