Chapter 10
Deacon’s hands froze. He took the report with a visible tremor.
When his eyes fell on the words “No probability of paternity”, the strength drained from his entire body.
A bitter smile twisted his lips. As he laughed, tears spilled down his face. “So it’s true… she really isn’t… Nina, you don’t
love me anymore.”
Before I could respond, several FBI agents entered the studio.
“Mr. Carnera, regarding your kidnapped a minor, we need you to come with us.”
Deacon looked at me one last time. Then he nodded and followed them out.
The studio gradually regained order. Even though my identity was now public, the recording continued smoothly.
In fact, because of this incident, Luminous Melody shattered every digital engagement record in Boston’s history.
That same night, hashtags like #Lady R, the Torvani Group President’s Wife# and #Piano Prodigy Revealed After Seven
Years# dominated the trending list.
Every comment defended me. Kristen, once the untouchable musical prodigy, instantly turned into a public pariah
everyone wanted to stone.
When I returned home, I turned to Chance. “You planned this, didn’t you? You let the production team invite Kristen as
a judge… just so you could right the wrongs for me?”
Chance gently tapped the tip of my nose, smiling with indulgent warmth.
“You see through everything. She owed you, and I ensure that the ledger of your suffering is balanced, down to the last
cent.’
My heart softened. I rose onto my toes and pressed a kiss to his lips.
A few days later, the Carnera family disappeared from Boston entirely. The Torvani family stood alone as the city’s sole
mafia power.
Chance acted swiftly. Within a week, he had pushed Deacon out of the criminal underworld completely.
One day, I stood in the classroom teaching Maggle. Her tiny fingers danced across the plano keys, each note crisp and
bright.
‘Mommy, is this right?” she asked, tilting her little head.
‘Perfect.’ I stroked her hair, “Again. Remember to control your touch.”
As she played, I caught a glimpse of a familiar figure standing by the door.
Deacon. He stood silently, watching the two of us with unreadable eyes. I said nothing. I simply continued teaching.

After a long moment, he turned and walked away. I thought that was the last time I would ever see him. But the next
day, the police called.
“Mrs. Torvani, we found a male body in front of your mother’s grave. We need you to confirm his identity.”
A hollow, rhythmic thrum of finality beat against my ribs. When I arrived at the cemetery, the body was already zipped
inside a black bag.
The officer unzipped it slowly. Deacon’s pale face stared back at me.
Both his hands clutched items tightly. In his left hand was a confession letter. Inside, he detailed how he had killed
Kristen. Her body, he wrote, was still in their home.
In his right hand… a necklace.
I recognized it instantly. It was the very first gift he ever gave me.
“Mrs. Torvani,” the officer asked gently, pulling me from my thoughts, “would you like to arrange the funeral?”
“No.” I shook my head. “He is a stranger to me. Process the remains as a John Doe.”
