My Runaway Groom Came Back I Became His Aunt! novel Chapter 58

Chapter 5

Nerina had no idea. Probably thought I was just talking shit. She snorted and went back to her room.

My phone started buzzing. Nonstop.

Messages from Fabio. One after another. Desperate. Panicked.

I glanced at them. Then ignored them completely.

Pulled Dad’s things out from under the bed. Stuffed them in my pocket. Walked out of that house for good.

Aria was getting out soon. I needed to be there.

Back in prison, we used to read the same financial papers. My brother was a big deal in Italy, I saw him in the papers all

the time.

One day he was at some event with Nerina. The next, he’d bought her some new gift. I couldn’t help it. The tears just

came. It felt like someone was twisting a knife in my chest.

After it happened a few times, Aria finally asked, “What are you always crying about? Who is he to you?”

I told her the whole story. She laughed.

“You think that’s bad? Listen to mine. Right after I got married, my father was strangled. Hitman sent by a rival family. My advisor rushed to get me somewhere safe, ended up here. Soon as I was inside, my husband married someone else.”

I was shocked. Her smile just got wider.

“Guess who? The daughter of my rival family.”

She answered her own question. Then asked me, “Guess how much longer I have? Six months.”

Seeing her smile like that made my chest hurt.

She patted my shoulder. “At least you and your brother, it’s just a misunderstanding. Look at me.”

I managed a weak smile. Suddenly, my own problems didn’t seem so bad.

After that, we got close. Every time Fabio visited, I’d be a wreck. Sometimes I’d even get sick. But she always comforted

  1. Said she’d known a lot of people. She was a good judge of character. I wasn’t a thief.

Trust is hard to come by. My own brother couldn’t give it to me. But she did.

Before we got out, we made a deal. One month. I’d pick her up, and then I’d be her sister. She even copied Fabio’s line. “Of

course it’s fine. It’s not like you’ll be any trouble.”

Thinking about Aria made me feel strangely calm.
