"Hahaha!"
Marshal’s laughter filled the room as the flames from the decoy mansion flickered across the screen.
"Congratulations, Don Marshal!"
"I knew they wouldn’t stand a chance!"
"They thought they could go against the Di Carpios?"
The men gathered around the table laughed along with him.
Marshal raised his chin, a smug smile plastered across his face as he listened to their praises.
"Boss, you really are blessed," one of the men said. "Look at this. The moment you decided to handle everything personally, things immediately started going our way."
"Exactly!" another agreed. "Those bastards had their fun because Boss wasn’t paying attention to them before."
Marshal laughed even louder.
"That’s what happens when rats start thinking they’re lions," he said proudly. "They forgot who they were dealing with."
Scott stood several steps behind him, silently watching.
The plan had been his.
From choosing the decoy mansion to hiring the mercenaries and discreetly leaking the information, Scott had arranged almost everything. Yet, listening to everyone around them, it almost sounded as though Marshal had single-handedly planned the entire thing.
Not that he cared.
Marshal could take all the credit he wanted... as long as this was finally over.
Another deep exhale escaped Scott as he turned toward the screen. His jaw tightened at the thought playing in his head.
I just hope you’re not close enough, he thought, thinking of Ashley.
Unlike Scott, everyone else was celebrating with Marshal.
POP!
Suddenly, one of the men opened a bottle of champagne.
"Hahaha! Bring that here!" Marshal called.
Glasses were quickly brought out as someone filled Marshal’s glass before raising his own.
"To Don Marshal!"
Marshal proudly raised his glass. "To the Di Carpios!"
"HAHAHA!"
Everyone cheered.
For the first time in days, the suffocating tension in the room finally disappeared.
They had lost a lot and had been humiliated over and over, but a win was still a win.
In the underground, the most important thing was who won in the end. As for their losses, those could always be recovered.
But just as everyone clinked their glasses, a scream suddenly echoed from upstairs.
Everyone froze, turning toward the sound.
"Marshal!" Carmella screamed as she ran down the stairs. She almost tripped over her own feet but managed to catch herself. "They got—they got her!"
Marshal frowned, watching his hysterical wife.
"Carmella, what is it this time?"
The moment Carmella reached him, she clutched his arm tightly.
"Isabella!"
His brows furrowed. "What about Isabella?"
"I can’t find her!" she screamed. "Marshal, our daughter is gone! I can’t find her! Your enemies—they probably got her!"
Everyone frowned at her words.
Marshal stared at his wife for a second before grabbing her shoulders.
"Carmella, calm down. I can’t understand you."
"How can I calm down?!" Carmella snapped. "I’m telling you, Isabella is missing! Whoever is coming after us probably took her!"
"Madam." One of the men approached her, holding out a glass of water. "That is impossible. Why don’t you drink some water first?"
"Take that away from me!"
Carmella slapped the glass from his hand, causing it to shatter on the floor. She then turned to Marshal, clutching his shirt.
"Dear, they got her, didn’t they? Isabella isn’t in her room anymore!"
"Carmella!" Marshal grabbed her arm and shook her. "That’s not possible. I’ve already dealt with our enemies. Take a look."
He jerked his chin toward one of the screens on the table.
"Isabella is probably just somewhere around here. This mansion is huge, and she couldn’t have snuck out without alerting anybody," he continued, clicking his tongue.
Carmella really knew how to ruin his mood.
"She’s probably somewhere sulking." Marshal turned toward one of his men."Find her."
"Yes, boss." The man nodded and started walking away, motioning for several others to join him so they could find her faster.
Carmella’s breathing finally started to calm.
Then—
BANG!
Faint gunfire echoed through the mansion.
Everyone froze.
Was that a gunshot?
For several seconds, no one spoke until Carmella’s panicked voice sliced through the silence.
"Are we under attack?"
"Hah! Impossible!" Marshal snorted. "Someone probably accidentally opened fire or something."
"Check what’s going on outside," Scott ordered calmly.
"Yes, sir."
Even then, no one suspected anything serious, nor did they feel any panic.
They had already dealt with the people at the decoy mansion. Even though they didn’t know the exact number, they knew they had taken down an entire group.
BAM!
THUD!
BANG! BANG! BANG!
