Chapter 797
“That’s not what I asked.”
Leone swore under his breath, then he turned toward me.
I stepped back immediately, “What?”
“Hold still.”
“Why?”
“Because if the Capones put a tracker on you-”
“Then you should’ve thought about that before dragging me onto a fucking island.”
He grabbed my shoulder.
I jerked away, “Don’t touch me.”
“Gianna, stop fighting me for one fucking second.”
He ran his hands quickly over the outside of my t-shirt, then my sleeves, my waist, my sides. He checked my shoes, the seams of my clothes, even the back of my collar.
The necklace was there, not around my neck, not where anyone could see it, not where Leone would think to look.
I’d made that choice long before tonight.
Raphael had given me the necklace because he wanted me safe and now it was the only thing standing between me and complete isolation.
I had known someone would search my clothes eventually if I got caught. He’d take my phone. I’d also known he would never think to search that tiny hidden pocket in my underwear, not while Dad was standing there, not unless he was willing to cross a line even he knew existed.
Leone crouched and checked my shoes. He stood and looked at me. His eyes traveled over me, thinking, then they stopped right between my legs.
He reached toward my waist.
I stepped back, “Don’t.”
His expression changed, “Where is it?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You’re wearing something.”
“Everyone is wearing something, genius.”
Leone’s jaw clenched. He grabbed my arm and looked down at my clothes again, then his eyes dropped lower.
My blood ran cold.
“Leone,” Dad warned.
“I need to check.”

I shook my head, “No.”
“If there’s a tracker-”
“You can search my clothes.”
“I need to know.”
He moved closer.
I backed away until the edge of the dock caught against my heel, “What? You seriously think my stepbrothers, the Capones, shoved a tracker up my fucking vagina?”
His eyes dropped toward my legs. He lowered into a crouch and reached toward my thigh.
A cold smile pulled at his mouth, “Judging by those messages,” he said, “it sounds like you’ve let the Capones put a hell of a lot more between your legs than a tracker.”
And that pissed me off. I reacted before he could get any farther. I drove my knee straight into his face.
His head snapped back, “Fuck!”
He stumbled, clutching his nose.
I stood there breathing hard, “Don’t you fucking dare.”
Blood appeared beneath his nose. Leone stared at me in disbelief.
Dad’s expression hardened, “Leone.”
Leone wiped the blood from his mouth and glared at me, “You think this is funny?”
“No.”
His face twisted and I smiled because I knew exactly what had just happened. He had searched everything he could search. He had found nothing. And he wasn’t going to put his hands inside my underwear in front of my father.
The necklace remained exactly where I’d hidden it, against my skin and somewhere beyond this island, Raphael still had a path to me.
Leone pressed a hand beneath his nose and stared at me like he was deciding whether strangling me was worth the trouble, “Get her inside.”
One of the guards stepped forward.
