York froze. In this industry, everyone was a sly old fox.
The moment they caught a whiff of trouble on his end, the suppliers came circling like vultures.
"Arthur, you know me. I'll get it to you as soon as possible. Just give me a little time."
"Alright, I'll be waiting for your good news."
York breathed a sigh of relief. He was just about to tell his assistant to authorize the payment to get Arthur off his back while delaying the others, hoping to minimize the headache.
But the moment he hung up, the other suppliers started calling.
One after another, they relentlessly demanded their final payments.
York barely managed to placate them for the time being.
Before he could even catch his breath, his assistant rushed in with more bad news. "Mr. Zeller, because of all the sudden rumors circulating about our company, a lot of partners are terminating their contracts. Our supply chain is completely broken..."
York's head buzzed as if a million flies were swarming inside his brain.
It was over. He was ruined!
"No, wait. This has to be Lucian's doing!"
The realization hit him like a freight train. This was entirely Lucian's masterpiece!
He grabbed his phone and aggressively punched in the eleven digits to call Lucian.
He had memorized this number long ago; he would never forget it.
The call connected almost instantly.
"Hello? Who is this?" Lucian's calm voice echoed through the speaker.
Listening to that level tone, York could practically hear the smugness dripping from it.
He gritted his teeth. "Lucian, you dared to play me?"
Lucian's tone didn't waver. "I never told you to steal from me. You took the trash I didn't want, and now that it blew up in your face, you're blaming me for littering?"
