"Noreen, you and Seth are both going to rot in hell!" Lillian raged, infuriated by Noreen's indifference. "One played with my cousin's feelings, and the other stole her spotlight! You'll both pay!"
Noreen lifted her calm gaze. "If curses worked, your cousin wouldn't have gone crazy." She patiently added, "Also, if it was truly your cousin's spotlight, no one could have stolen it. If it could be taken, it means she stole it in the first place. It never belonged to her."
The cold words choked Lillian. Deep down, she knew the truth. She was just bitter. Her miserable life made her insanely jealous of Noreen, who now stood at the top, looking down at her.
"What about Seth? Why did he play with my cousin's feelings? The engagement was a fake! The care was a fake! He personally sent my cousin and my aunt to prison! He never loved her from the start!" Lillian's eyes swirled with madness.
A flicker of shock crossed Noreen's face, quickly morphing into something more complex.
Lillian's hysterical screaming drew the attention of the staff at The Half-Light Club. Seeing the situation, they immediately subdued Lillian and covered her mouth. After all, Noreen was a VIP guest they couldn't afford to offend.
"Ms. Gilmore, should we call the police?"
"No need," Noreen said, walking away without giving Lillian another glance.
The waiter contacted the manager, who hurried over. Seeing Lillian, his face darkened. "You again? Didn't you learn your lesson last time? Sneaking back here to solicit!"
Lillian shrank back, apologizing frantically. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."
Her apology was an instinctual reaction born from pure terror. The last time she secretly turned tricks here, the guy's wife had caught them red-handed, dragging the club into the mess. The club's boss had his men rough her up badly. Lillian was terrified, but unable to find a faster way to make money, she took a gamble and came back. That was how she ran into Noreen.
