Chapter 57

Serena chimed in with a sarcastic tone, “Wow, Victoria, I had no idea you were so capable. You just joined the company and you’ve already landed such a huge project. Some people can be here for years and accomplish nothing, just collecting a paycheck.”

At this, Victoria glanced at Stephanie.

“Serena, Stephanie’s work wasn’t useless,” she said. “If Verdant Grove Capital hadn’t had her technology to compare with mine, they might not have signed with me so quickly. So in a way, half the credit belongs to her.”

Every word was a backhanded way of saying Stephanie’s research was inferior, which was why Sapphire Group chose the newer technology.

Serena smirked. “Oh, don’t be so modest. It was all your achievement, why share the credit? But speaking of which, congratulations on your upcoming promotion to associate director.”

The two of them were perfectly in sync, their back-and-forth better than a rehearsed comedy routine.

Troy had actually wanted Stephanie to be the associate director. She had been with the company for years, and he had even been involved in the early stages of her project.

But since the promise had been made, he couldn’t go back on his word. Troy announced:

“Once the contract is finalized, I’ll recommend Victoria’s promotion to the boss. And to celebrate the department landing this project, let’s all go out for a team dinner tonight.”

Victoria hesitated. Quennel had been busy lately, and she wasn’t sure if he would come.

But since she had already boasted about it, Victoria nodded. “Okay, I’ll ask him later.”

Hearing that Victoria was bringing her rich boyfriend, a few social climbers eagerly gathered around her.

“Victoria, ask your boyfriend to bring some of his friends! The single ones!”

The girls’ intentions were written all over their faces.

Victoria smiled. “Maybe next time. This is too sudden; his friends probably won’t be free.”

The group laughed awkwardly and dispersed.

Stephanie watched the scene unfold.

She had never cared much for fame and status, but… Verdant Grove Capital signed with

Victoria? That was incredibly strange.

She had just left Ternence’s office a short while ago, and he had specifically said that his decision to partner with Sapphire Group was based on his high regard for her research.

Moreover, she had seen Ternence sign the contract with her own eyes before she left.

It wasn’t officially stamped, but he had signed. There was no reason for Ternence to lie

to her.

Stephanie wasn’t sure where things had gone wrong.

But if she went to the boss’s office to ask now, it would look like she was trying to undermine her colleagues. People would think there was serious internal conflict at Sapphire Group, and that was the last thing she wanted.

Stephanie decided to wait until everyone had left for the day and then ask the boss what was going on.
