“I should be the one thanking you.” Emma took the seat across from him, her gaze steady and sincere.
“I just heard that you asked Mr. Thero to recruit a whole group of therians across the Three Domains for Lucien’s squad.”
At her words, Drake’s hand froze midair.
He looked at Emma, nervous, unsure. “W–Was it… Silas who told you?”
“Yes.” Emma nodded.
“Silas explained everything to me, and Mr. Thero called as well.
Lucien’s squad has been trying to recruit from the Three Domains for ages, but they’ve never succeeded.
This time, it’s all because of you. Drake, truly, thank you.”
She meant every word.
“I’m happy to do anything to help your mate.”
Drake didn’t need her gratitude. “Emmy, I did all of this willingly.”
In truth, he wanted to do more for her. But everything around Emma was already taken care of by her mates. He barely ever had a chance to help.
Even getting the opportunity to cook for her today only happened because he’d given Kieran a gift, and Kieran finally agreed to teach him.
Emma looked at Drake’s open, earnest eyes and felt her emotions twist.
She never doubted the sincerity of what he said. And she understood what was hidden beneath those words.
But the Drake who wanted to bond with her now… his mental power wasn’t normal. He wasn’t the overlord of the Three Domains who once sought to unify the entire interstellar.

She had no idea what kind of person he would become once his mental power stabilized again.
The Drake before and the Drake now were practically two different men.
That was why she’d never considered bonding with him.
“No matter what, I still need to thank you. When Lucien comes back, I’ll tell him everything you did.”
For such a massive favor, Lucien ought to thank him, and not just with a simple “thanks.”
Drake listened, and a shadow of disappointment crossed his eyes.
So, she hadn’t come because she is beginning to accept me.
She’d come to thank me on Lucien’s behalf.
He was so envious of Lucien.
Lucien is not just Emma’s first mate; she also treats him with such warmth.
Drake looked at her, his voice lowering, soft to the point of fragility, almost humble, “Emmy,
you
don’t have to come thank me like this. As long as this makes you happy, that’s already the best reward I could ask for.”
He paused. His gaze drifted to the still–warm breakfast on the table. His eyes softened, gentle and full of reluctant yearning.
“Just like this breakfast. Being able to eat something you personally brought me, being able to sit here quietly and talk with you like this, I’m already… very satisfied. Truly”
He knew he couldn’t compare to Lucien or Silas. He couldn’t even compare to Malrik or Kieran.
So he didn’t dare hope for too much. He only wanted Emma to think of him once in a while, to say a few words to him, and give him a smile.
That alone would be enough for him.
In the Enchanter Clan, after being dragged back overnight from Al, Lily Yates stormed into her mother’s room, fuming.
“Mother, what was so urgent that you had to drag me back?”
She had finally met a powerful male she actually liked on Al. She didn’t even get the chance to talk to him before her mother yanked her home.
Celia was eating breakfast. The moment she saw her daughter, she immediately nudged her mate aside so Celia could sit next to her.
“Lily, don’t be angry. I didn’t mean to disrupt anything between you and that male you liked. I called you back because something important came up.”
“What could possibly be more important than bonding?” Lily asked sharply.
Celia placed a piece of fried beast cutlet into her bowl and smiled.
“Haven’t you always wanted that Aurelian prince, His Highness Lucien Veynar, to become your mate?”
Lily glanced at the meat with clear disgust. It was fishy and rancid; she hated it.
“Mother, are you confused? The Aurelian clan already said Lucien has a huntress. Even if I wanted to bond with him, it’s too late.”
When she was young, she had followed her mother to the Aurelian clan. The first time she saw Lucien, she fell for him instantly.
After that, she secretly searched for news about him. Once, when she learned Lucien was going to the battlefield, she secretly led therians from the Enchanter clan to follow him.
She almost got captured by the Chitinid that time, and Lucien saved her.
Since then, she liked him even more.
She tried many times to see him, but she never could. He was always busy handling Aurelian affairs, training, or volunteering for military missions.
Every day, she prayed to the Beast God to match her with him.
But the Beast God didn’t answer her prayer. While she was away, Lucien was matched to another female.
By the time she learned of it, he was already that female’s mate.
