Silas found himself pondering, What in the world could Marcus have done to provoke Calum’s ire?

Yet, as he reflected on Marcus’s propensity for thoughtless remarks, it became abundantly clear that ruffling Calum’s feathers was practically a given.
Before Silas could voice his curiosity about the unfolding drama, Calum interjected, “Since our female has only five mates, what’s the deal with Drake? Is he, like me, one of her intended partners? Or is he just a mere follower?”
“Drake was once a match for Emy,” Silas clarified, his voice steady. “But eventually, Emy chose to dissolve that match. He’s currently by her side because he’s struggling; his mental fortitude has crumbled. He needs Emy’s support to heal and regain his strength.”
Calum’s brow furrowed as he absorbed this revelation. “She’s already severed ties with him, yet she still shows concern for him?”
He mused, My female is far too kind-hearted. That dragon seems to be in a state of turmoil these days, yet my female treats him with nothing but compassion.
“And what prompted her to break off the match with Drake in the first place?” he pressed, his curiosity piqued.
In that moment, Calum felt an insatiable urge to uncover every detail about those who surrounded Emma.
Silas, it appeared, was his best source of insight.
Silas recognized that Calum viewed him as a living repository of information.
“I arrived at Emy’s side rather late,” he replied. “By the time I got here, she had already dissolved her match with Drake. Emy never disclosed the particulars to me, so I can’t provide any specifics. If the Marshal is interested, why not simply ask her?”
Calum was momentarily taken aback by this suggestion.
He wouldn’t dare approach her with such a question.
With no valuable insights to be had about Drake, he deftly shifted the topic. “Aside from Ms. Tibarn’s five mates, including myself and Drake, are there any other males in our female’s life?”
Calum contemplated, Typically, females have at least nine mates.
How did my female end up with just five?

As for Drake, since the match had already been dissolved, Calum didn’t consider him one of her mates anymore and excluded him from his thoughts.
“There’s also Malrik and Kieran…” Silas continued, his tone matter-of-fact.
Without waiting for Calum to ask further questions, Silas swiftly laid out the entire household dynamics.
“Currently, Malrik is Emy’s active match. Once he recovers, it’s likely she will officially bond with him. Kieran remains in the role of a follower. That’s the general state of affairs at home.”
“Marshal, Malrik isn’t thinking straight at the moment. Whenever he sees a male with white hair, he believes it’s his father,” Silas explained, his tone laced with amusement.

Initially, when Malrik mistook Marcus for his father, Silas had speculated that perhaps Marcus had done something noteworthy to warrant such a connection.
However, after further investigation, they discovered that Malrik identified Marcus as his dad solely due to the shared trait of white hair.
Silas had even conducted a little experiment; any therians with white hair that crossed Malrik’s path were instantly dubbed ‘dad.’
“Marshal, for Emy’s sake, just bear with it,” Silas advised, suppressing a chuckle. “Malrik is currently matched with her. And what Emy desires most is for all the males in her life to bond like true brothers—supporting one another and genuinely caring.”
Calum, who had initially contemplated prying Malrik off him and tossing him aside, found himself at a loss for words.
Malrik tilted his head back to look up at him, then lifted the fruit in his hands, presenting it with innocent, hopeful eyes. “Daddy, I picked this fruit for you. Please eat it.”
Silas wisely kept his gaze lowered, allowing the moment to unfold.
Calum glanced at the fruit cradled in Malrik’s palm, a vein pulsing at his temple in irritation.
He loathed eating fruit more than anything else.
Yet, the sight of Malrik’s eager little face filled him with a sense of dread; if he refused, there was a strong chance the boy might actually dissolve into tears.
After a brief but intense internal struggle, Calum finally extended his hand and accepted the fruit from Malrik’s grasp.
