Nine Hot Therians and Their Only One Queen novel Chapter 490

**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**

**Chapter 490: Checking on Lucien**

“So…”

Marcus’s voice trailed off, uncertainty lingering in the air as he turned to Lucien, his brow furrowing with concern. “So, does this mean that every time Ms. Tibarn eats, Lucien ends up vomiting?” His gaze was heavy with sympathy, and he couldn’t help but feel a pang of distress for his friend.

Lucien, feeling the weight of exhaustion, sank back against the bed. His voice emerged in a soft whisper, barely above a murmur. “I’m okay. It’s just throwing up.” He tried to sound nonchalant, but deep down, he knew it was more than just a minor inconvenience.

It wasn’t as if it was life-threatening, but the thought of it gnawed at him.

“Just don’t let Emma find out,” he added quickly, a flicker of worry crossing his features. The last thing he wanted was for Emma to feel anxious or guilty. If she caught wind of his condition, her instinct would be to worry, and that would lead her to eat less, which was the last thing they needed.

After all, she was carrying their cubs now, and her body required all the energy it could muster. Lately, her appetite had surged, and she had been indulging in her cravings without restraint.

Marcus offered a reassuring smile, attempting to ease Lucien’s tension. “Relax. You don’t have to say anything—I won’t tell her.” He could sense Lucien’s unease and wanted to provide comfort, even if it meant bending the truth a little.

Even if Lucien continued to be sick, he would manage. But Emma? She simply couldn’t go without her meals.

“Calm down. I won’t spill the beans,” Alaric chimed in, stepping closer to Lucien. He reached into his satchel and produced a small vial filled with a shimmering potion. “Drink this—it’ll help you feel better. And remember, you need to eat afterward.”

“If you absolutely can’t stomach anything, at least have some nutrient fluid,” he advised, his tone firm yet caring. Alaric knew he couldn’t linger too long; Stella needed his attention as well.

Marcus turned his focus back to Lucien, concern etched on his face. “What do you feel like eating? I can have Corvin or Edric whip something up for you.” He knew that his culinary skills were nowhere near the level of his friends, but right now, his priority was to be there for Lucien.

Lucien shook his head, a wave of disinterest washing over him. Food seemed unappealing at the moment, including the nutrient fluids that were meant to nourish him. After a moment of contemplation, he finally spoke up, his voice barely above a whisper. “Marcus, do you have any fruit? Just give me two pieces.”

“No,” Marcus replied immediately, shaking his head with a slight frown. He had never been fond of fruit himself.

Seeing the miserable look on Lucien’s face, he let out a resigned sigh. “Corvin might have some. I’ll check with him.”

Without wasting a moment, Marcus quickly sent a message to Corvin: ‘Corvin, do you have any fruit? Lucien wants some!’

At home, aside from Malrik, Corvin was known as one of the biggest fruit enthusiasts.

Corvin had just finished his own meal and was in the process of cleaning up when Marcus’s message pinged on his device. He responded without delay: ‘Okay, I’ll bring some over!’

He had more than enough on hand, having just given Emma a generous supply. With the cubs on the way, Emma had developed a taste for more than just meat; she had taken to fruit with delight.
