“I thought Andre might just use his Level 11 or 12 beast cores to buy some food, but I never expected him to give five Level 14 ones.”

He was unbelievably generous.

Silas knew Emma was rather money–minded. He sighed inwardly with amusement and praised her. “Emma, you’re incredible. Not only did you figure out Gaellard’s weak spot, but you even knew how to get Alaric to convince Andre.”

She blinked.

On the surface, his words were praise, but she couldn’t help feeling something was slightly off. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, though.

It was fine, though. She’d just go with it for now.

She smiled at Silas. “I was going to ask you to do it, but you were busy. I didn’t want to interrupt your work.”

Silas shook his head. “Even if you had asked me, it wouldn’t have worked as well as Alaric did.”

Alaric raised an eyebrow when he heard that. “Has the sun started rising in the west today? Are you saying I pulled it off better than

you?”

Silas shot him a glance. “What’s wrong with admitting I’m not as good as you?”

Then, he took Emma’s hand and sat down beside her at the table. Alaric frowned, sensing Silas‘ slight annoyance. Did it have something to do with Andre?

After lunch, Emma asked Corvin and Kieran to help her with more kitchen prep.

Now that Jim had become addicted to the food, he followed her willingly to help. Alaric wanted to help too, but Silas stopped him. “Alaric, come with me.”

Alaric knew immediately that Silas was a little upset. He said nothing and followed him to his room. “Is this about Andre and Gaellard?”

Alaric knew that whatever else was happening, nothing else would make Silas angry.

Silas asked, “What excuse did you use to trick Andre?”

Gaellard’s situation didn’t bother Silas. Gaellard loved food, was greedy, and went into the trap willingly–he wouldn’t overthink it.

However, Andre was different.

“You’ve guessed it, haven’t you?”

Alaric walked over and sat on the couch opposite Silas.

Silas, with his near–demonic intelligence, would never fail to figure out how Alaric tricked Andre. Alaric didn’t believe it for a second.

Silas closed his lightcore and countered, “Do you think it was right?”

“What’s wrong with it?” Alaric didn’t feel he’d done anything wrong. “I didn’t hurt anyone. No matter the process, I completed the task Emma gave me.”

He continued, “Emma got the beast cores she wanted, I finished the job, and Andre willingly jumped into the trap. What’s bad about that?”

He had only dug a trap for Andre—the choice to jump in was entirely Andre’s. No one had a knife to his throat forcing him to trade beast cores for food.

Silas sighed. “It seems you still don’t understand Emma. If you truly understood her, you’d know that the trap you dug today didn’t just make Andre jump in. It also pulled Emma herself forward.”

“Do you think Emma would accept Andre because of these five Level 14 beast cores?” Alaric frowned, skeptical of Silas‘ words. But he knew Silas wouldn’t joke about something like this.

“Emma doesn’t like Andre. She…”

Silas cut him off. “That’s exactly why I said you don’t understand Emma well enough. She doesn’t like Andre right now, but Andre is extremely purposeful in his actions, and he’s willing to take risks.”

He continued, “Emma is far too soft–hearted, especially toward those who treat her well. You’ve basically handed Andre a way to win her over. Give him time, and Emma might not be able to resist him.”

Silas knew Emma all too well. She hated people being nice to her, unless she had a reason to let them in.

If Andre never found a way to approach her, Emma would never accept him. But if he figured out how to please her… Over time, her heart could soften.
