“Do I need to top off your cups and dig your graves too?”
Andre glanced at Marcus without answering

Gaellard’s handsome face brightened with a grin. “Ms. Aria Veynar going home has nothing to do with us. Andre and I are unattached males. We have no home waiting for us.
“Besides, Emma never told us to leave.”
Andre nodded. “Right.”
Marcus rolled his eyes, barely bothering to lift his lids as he regarded the two men anchored to the sofa.
“No home?”
He gave a cold laugh and shot back, “You have homes. Your hides are simply too thick to fit through the doors.”
Gaettard’s smile never faltered. He merely settled into a more comfortable position, clearly prepared to stay.
Marcus turned on Gaellard first and sneered, “You look like a withered ditch weed. Ms. Tibarn hasn’t thrown you out because she has manners and wants to preserve the last scrap of dignity you possess
“Are you two planning to put down roots in our great hall and hang around as permanent third wheels?”
Then he swung toward the silent Andre.
“And you, Andre.”
Marcus snorted, “Right? Is that all you can say?
“If your tongue has no other purpose, donate it to a therian who can use it instead of wasting the space.”
Andre raised his eyes without expression and said, “I have uses for it.”
Emma walked over and patted Marcus’s hand.
“Stop lying here. If you’re tired, go rest in your room.”
Then she turned to Gaellard and Andre. “Thank you for bringing me the sapling. I made some dried fruit and pastries. Take them home and try them.”
Gaellard loved food. His eyes shone even brighter than before.
He accepted the package immediately. “You’re too generous, Emma. We’ll head out for today. Andre and I live just outside the castle, so call whenever you need us.”
Once they were gone, Marcus started to rise, intending to ask whether Emma wanted to rest.
Before he could speak, a tall figure had already reached her side.
Lucien naturally extended a hand and supported Emma by the arm.

the lowered his gaze and asked in a low, gentle voice. “You must be tired, Emma.
“I’ll take you upstairs.”
Emma met his gentle, focused eyes and smiled as she leaned half her weight against him.
“All right.”
Lucien’s carefully arranged romantic date had been ruined before.
She had spent time with Marcus, so she could not neglect Lucien now.
Marcus watched them enter the floating elevator, his mouth open around words he was forced to swallow.
Without Emma, the little energy he had gathered drained away. He returned to his room looking half dead once more.
Corvin swallowed his fruit and frowned in regret.
“Why didn’t I think of helping Emma back to her room?”
Edric glanced at him. “Keep eating.”

Lucien had ignored even his own cubs to watch Emma for ages. There was no chance he would let anyone else move first.
Corvin shook his head. “I’m done. I’m full.”
Any more and he would have no room for dinner.
Kieran stood and casually smoothed a crease at his waist. “Since nothing else is happening, I’m going back to soak.”
Aurelia Territory.
Night deepened over the silent land.
Aria and her mates had long since fallen asleep beneath the heavy dark.
Rafael slowly opened his eyes in his own bed.
There was no trace of sleep in them, only a cold and unnatural gleam.
In the next instant, he vanished from the mattress.
Rafael was neither a therian nor a Chitinid.
He belonged to an ancient, mysterious species that existed somewhere between the two.
Across the vast reaches of the interstellar worlds, perhaps only two or three beings like him remained.
