“Drake is still dealing with people from the Four Domains and hasn’t finished yet. I already had someone send his lunch over.”
Looks like everyone’s busy.
“Forget about them then. Let’s eat.”
With her questions settled, Emma didn’t say anything more and focused on her meal.
Not long after, Jim entered the dining room. He took the empty seat beside Marcus, his gaze falling briefly on Emma. Seeing that she was quietly eating with no intention of talking, he picked up his cutlery and began eating as well.
After lunch, Jim helped clean up the dining room and kitchen. When he saw Emma sitting on the living room couch, he walked ov and asked, “Do you want to hang out in my room?”
Before leaving, Corvin had specifically gone to Jim’s room and told him to invite Emma over more often. That way, it would be easier to build a connection with her. Who knew–maybe if she got interested, she might even want to bond with him.
Jim Had noticed that the other males all liked inviting Emma into their rooms too. Thinking it over, Corvin’s advice did make some
sense.
The moment Emma heard the invitation, an image of Jim’s gloomy, bone–chilling room flashed through her mind, and her scalp
ingled.
Go to his room? For fun? That’s not fun–that’s a test of courage!
She shook her head immediately, refusing without hesitation. “No, no, no. That’s okay.”
Realizing she might have rejected him too quickly, she hurried to soften it. “Um… I’ve got something to take care of this afternoon. so I won’t go.”
Even if she had nothing to do, she still wouldn’t dare go.
Jim didn’t show much disappointment at being turned down. He simply looked at her for a couple of seconds before lowering his gaze. “Oh.”
He could tell–Emma didn’t seem to want to go to his room. Was it because they hadn’t built any kind of connection yet?
Without saying anything else, Jim quietly returned to his room.
Watching his figure disappear at the stairway, Emma let out a long breath of relief.
Thank goodness he didn’t insist.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to go–she genuinely didn’t dare. That room… she really couldn’t handle it. Honestly, it was all Corvin’s fault for designing it like that.
She wanted to tell Jim that the room felt too dark and oppressive for her liking, but then again, he liked it. Asking him to change it didn’t feel right. After all, it was his space. She should respect his preferences.
As the elevator doors closed, Emma pushed the thought aside. She pulled out her lightcore and quickly texted Lucien. “Did you go to work? How are the cubs today? You said they’d be hatching soon–this won’t affect them, right?”

In a military conference room, Lucien—who had been idly listening to a group of old men argue–felt his lightcore vibrate on his wrist. The moment he saw Emma’s message, his eyes lit up.
But when he realized she was only asking about the cubs, he raised a brow.
“You messaged me just to check on the cubs? Not even going to ask if I’m tired? Emma, I’m jealous. My heart’s about to sour–what are you going to do about that?”
Emma rolled her eyes at the ceiling, utterly speechless. Seriously? He’s even jealous of his own cubs now?
“Of course I care about you. You’ve been working so hard. When you get back tonight, I’ll make it up to you properly, okay?”
Even though he knew she was just humoring him, Lucien still bought it. A pleased smile tugged at his lips.
