Chapter 803 One Big Happy Family
Emma stared at Lucien’s message, took a deep breath, and steadied herself. Pretending not to notice the underlying meaning in his words, she replied casually, starting it with a GIF of a pat on the head.
“Why the sudden overtime? You can’t even make it home tonight?”
Barely two seconds after she sent it, Lucien’s status switched to “typing…“. After a short pause, his reply came through.
‘It’s nothing major. Calum just dumped all the meetings and official work for the next few days on me. He’s never been like this before–anything he could handle himself, he always did. Not like Silas, who loves passing his workload to others. Calum’s been working hard these past few days, so helping him out is only fair.
‘But the way he handled this… it’s exactly like Silas. No idea where he picked that up from. It couldn’t have been Silas‘ idea, right?
meari, making someone who’s still incubating work… he wouldn’t go that far, would he?”
Emma stared at the messages in awe. Every single one of them–absolute masters of acting. That kind of soft advance wrapped in polite praise and subtle digs? She wouldn’t come up with something like that even in ten years.
At that moment, Emma fully grasped just how dangerous this kind of situation was. Silas had already played the honest and open card with her, while Lucien was over here acting restrained and pitiful..
Luckily, she was slippery enough not to get involved. If she followed Lucien’s lead and criticized Silas, the moment those two compared notes, she’d end up looking biased. But if she defended Silas, Lucien might just snap on the spot with all that bottled–up grievance.
This wasn’t a conversation–it was a minefield, and she was being dragged right into it.
Emma’s eyes darted, and she quickly typed, tossing the hot potato right back out.
Oh my god, seriously? Could there be some misunderstanding? To avoid any confusion, how about I make a group chat and add you and Silas? You two can just talk it out there.”
nstantly, Emma suddenly realized Corvin’s love of making group chats.
ucien looked at Emma’s message, then glanced at the newly created group. He couldn’t help but laugh. He didn’t even need to guess–Silas had definitely already secured his exit route in front of Emma.
Meanwhile, Emma created the group and casually named it “One Big Happy Family“, and the system notified that Lucien and Silas
ad joined the chat.
Emma hugged her lightcore, pulled out a bag of peanuts from her storage band, and leaned back, eyes glued to the screen, waiting o see who would speak first.
Alaric came downstairs to grab something and spotted her snacking white staring intently at the screen. Curious, he walked over ‘Emma, what are you watching?”
Emma glanced at him, reached out, and tugged him down to sit beside her. “I’m watching Lucien and Silas in the group chat. waiting to see who talks first” She handed him a handful of peanuts “Perfect timing–you can watch with me. If they say something I don’t get, you can translate.”
Among everyone in the house, aside from Silas and Lucien, Alaric was the most scheming of the bunch.

Alaric took the peanuts, let Emma lean against him, and teased, “You’re sipping tea with a translator on the side?”
But he was curious too–what exactly had happened between Lucien and Silas?
As he spoke, he shelled a peanut and fed it to Emma, his gaze shifting to the lightcore screen.
Soon, the group chat stirred. The first to speak was Silas.
‘Emy, why did you suddenly make a new group? And why did you add Lucien?”
Seeing the message, Alaric leaned close and murmured into Emma’s ear, “Silas is definitely playing dumb.”
Emma nodded. “That’s what I thought too.”
Then Silas sent another message.

‘Lucien should be pretty busy right now, right? He probably doesn’t have time to chat here. Honestly, Calum’s being a bit much- Lucien’s still incubating cubs, and he still made him work. But then again, with the Chitinid acting up lately, everyone’s busy. Calum doesn’t really have a choice. The only one capable of handling this and someone he can fully trust… is Lucien.”
Emma hadn’t even finished processing the message when Alaric spoke beside her, “Silas is ruthless.”
His long fingers gestured lazily at the screen. “Look at the first line–he pretends he knows nothing, then immediately steers the conversation himself, shifting everything toward Calum and the Chitinid situation, neatly removing himself from the equation.”
Emma turned to him, waiting for more.
Alaric pointed at the last message Silas had sent and continued, “What he’s really saying is: the Chitinid are acting up, everyone’s wamped, Calum trusts Lucien completely–so of course Lucien should help. Isn’t that only natural?”
