“Then, we’re heading off too.”

Corvin had already changed back into human form. He looked at Lucien. “If the babies start crying again tonight, do you want me to stay and help?”

Lucier hadn’t even answered yet when Silas cut in first. “Stay.”

He drew back his power, then quickly spoke to Corvin before the cubs could start crying again.

“Use your ability on him. Keep him calm.”

Corvin immediately did as told, wrapping the little one in his power.

Silas exhaled. “Good. Since this is handled, I’m leaving.”

He had already pushed aside a mountain of work just to come back tonight. Now that the crisis was over, he still had to return and deal with all of it.

“Thank you.”

This time, Lucien meant it completely.

If Silas hadn’t figured out what was wrong, there was no telling how much longer they would have been driven crazy.

Silas smiled at Lucien. “Now that we know what works, the males in the house can take turns staying with them from now on.“”

Drake immediately let out a deep breath. “If that’s all it is, then there’s probably nothing I need to do tonight. I’m heading back.”

At last, he could sleep properly. Even he couldn’t survive that kind of nonstop torment.

When Drake came in, Lucien had gone into the bathroom and wasn’t around.

By the time Lucien stepped back out, Drake was already gone.

He was dressed in a black silk robe threaded with gold, once again looking every bit the elegant, composed male.

The little cubs on the bed weren’t sleepy at all, but they were no longer crying or making trouble. Quiet and sweet, they looked like angels.

Lucien sat off to the side, idly turning the pages of a book.

The next morning, Emma woke feeling completely rested.

As soon as she got dressed, she hurried straight to Lucien’s room.

Today, the room felt nothing like it had over the last two days.

The two cubs were sleeping soundly on the bed.

Corvin was asleep on the couch, while Lucien sat on the other one, awake and scrolling through his lightcore.

As soon as he saw Emma enter, Lucien shut it off, rose to his feet, and came over smiling.

Emma could only stare at him.

“Lucien, did the babies not make trouble last night?”

Lucien smiled and nodded. “Thanks to Silas. He figured out what was wrong. They’ve been really well–behaved since then.”

“Really?”

The second Emma heard that the two little ones had finally stopped making trouble, she released a huge breath. Thank goodness. If this had kept going, no one would have survived it.

“What was it?” she asked at once. “Why were they crying before?”

Lucien told her the reason. And when Emma learned that the cubs had only been crying because they didn’t feel safe, her chest tightened painfully.

“Good thing Silas figured it out.”

“Yeah.” Lucien nodded. “At least now we know how to take care of them.”

He glanced toward the two cubs and said quietly to Emma, “They were so good last night. They didn’t fuss once. When they woke up, they just played on their own. And when they got sleepy, they went back to sleep by themselves.”

Downstairs, Edric sent Emma a message telling her breakfast was ready.

Emma tugged lightly on Lucien’s sleeve. “Breakfast’s done. Want to come down and eat with me?”

Lucien nodded. “Let Corvin stay here and keep an eye on them for now. I’ll go down with you.”

He had to head out after breakfast anyway, so he might as well go down with Emma now.

Emma walked over and reached out to touch Corvin’s face.

His eyes opened instantly. “Emma.”

The moment he saw her, Corvin sat up on the couch and yawned. “You’re awake?”

“Yeah.”

Emma nodded. “Lucien and I are going downstairs for breakfast. Can you stay here and watch them for a little while first? I’ll bring your breakfast up soon, okay?”

“Yeah.” Corvin nodded. “That’s fine. The cubs are super well–behaved.”

Honestly, no one could tell whether Corvin was just absurdly lucky or naturally blessed. The second he came back, the babies stopped crying.

“So are you.” Emma leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. “I’m going downstairs first. I’ll come back up and stay with you soon.”

He was behaving so well. Of course she had to spoil him a little.

Only after making sure Corvin was settled did Emma head downstairs with Lucien.

After breakfast, Lucien left.

Emma didn’t ask what he had gone out to do.
