“You know, I’m suddenly realizing Emma’s actually been pretty gentle with the two of us this whole time.

“Sure, she’s never shown interest in either of us, but at least she’s never outright rejected us like that.”

Andre glanced over at Gaellard.

“Why don’t you go find out for yourself, then? Let’s see if Emma turns you down just as fast.”

The reason Emma had never explicitly rejected either of them was simple. Neither of them had ever given her the chance to reject them in the first place.

Gaellard rolled his eyes in exasperation.

“Why would I do that? I’m here to protect Emma quietly from the shadows, not to confess my feelings to her.”

He wasn’t foolish enough to hand Emma an easy opportunity to shut him down outright.

Andre said nothing further and simply let his gaze drift away, calm and unbothered.

He stood tucked in the shadows, his whole presence seeming to melt seamlessly into the darkness around him.

Yet those ice blue eyes of his never once strayed from Emma, remaining locked on her without a single break.

Outside, Aria, dressed in her formal gown, hurried down from her ship with several of her partners trailing close behind.

“Come on, you three, pick up the pace,” she called back over her shoulder.

Her brother had just texted her, letting her know Emma had already arrived.

Moving as quickly as she was, Aria failed to notice a young male walking toward her, and the two of them collided head on.

Aria stumbled backward from the impact, though thankfully her reflexes kept her from actually falling.

Everything had happened so fast that her partners hadn’t even had time to react, and the moment they saw Aria get knocked into their hearts leaped straight into their throats.

“Huntress, are you alright?” one of them asked urgently.

Once they confirmed Aria was fine, they turned their attention to the male who’d bumped into her.
