Chapter 950 Not Happening
Chapter 950 Not Happening
He was one inch away from the wall.
Then half an inch.
Rafael could already feel the bitter cold radiating off that wall of ice, so close it prickled against his skin.
Then, right as his forehead was about to make contact with the solid ice…
A sharp whoosh cut through the air.
The unbreakable wall of ice standing in front of him slid backward, half a yard in an instant.
It moved so fast it kicked up a gust of freezing wind in its wake.
A dull, awkward thud rang out through the quiet hall.
There was no dramatic splitting of skin, no gasp of horror, and no one rushing to stop him.

With his target gone, and all that momentum still carrying him forward, Rafael’s whole body tumbled through the air in a ridiculous
arc.
He landed flat on the marble floor with a heavy, undignified smack.
The entire hall fell dead silent for a few seconds.
A strange, thick awkwardness hung in the air.
Rafael lay sprawled on the ground, mind completely blank, utterly stunned.
He forced his head up and stared through the ice wall at Andre, disbelief written across his face.
Andre stood beside Emma, looking down at the smear of blood on the floor with open distaste, his ice blue eyes carrying no warmth whatsoever.
He looked at Rafael the way someone might look at trash too far gone to bother recycling.
“Filthy.”
It was one flat word, but it landed on Rafael harder than any slap could have.
Gaellard’s mouth twitched slightly.
He looked down at Rafael, still flat on the ground and struggling to get up, and stayed quiet for a couple of seconds.
Then he slowly raised a hand to rub his forehead.
“Andre.” Gaellard’s tone carried an unusual note of complication. “Don’t you think that was a little much?”
Andre glanced sideways at him, his cold blue eyes flicking over with obvious confusion.
“Was it?”

Clearly he didn’t see anything excessive about it at all.
Gaellard was speechtess
Right. Of course.
Trying to appeal to that man’s sense of sympathy was like trying to explain music to a rock.
His mouth twitched again.
“The guy was making a stand, throwing himself at a wall for his honor.”
“And you just moved the wall?”
Andre’s expression stayed perfectly calm.
“He wasn’t actually trying to die.”
If he wasn’t trying to die, why throw himself at it in the first place?
He’d just get blood all over his ice.
Gaellard found himself at a loss for words for a second, unable to argue against that.
The onlookers all wore the same strange expression.
As much as they hated to admit it, that logic actually made a certain kind of sense.
Emma listened to the exchange between the two men, and her own mouth twitched slightly.
Honestly, she hadn’t felt much sympathy for Rafael up to this point.
Something about the male had felt strange to her from the very beginning.
He looked frail enough to snap in half.

And yet every tearful outburst, every expression, even the exact timing of his tears, all of it felt too perfectly calculated, like he’d rehearsed the whole thing in advance.
It had put her instinctively on guard.
But now…
Emma looked down at Rafael, still sprawled across the floor.

His silver hair lay in a tangled mess across his forehead, and a smear of blood still clung to the corner of his mouth, unwiped.
That face, beautiful to the point of looking almost otherworldly, now wore a dazed, blank expression from the shock of it all.
It looked like his very soul had gotten knocked loose from his body in the fall.
He looked, oddly enough, a little foolish.
And also, just a little pitiful.

Emma stayed quiet för a few seconds.
She’d felt nothing much at all watching Lange rough him up earlier.

But after Andre’s little stunt, she found herself actually feeling a flicker of sympathy for this remarkably good looking man.
On the floor, Rafael finally gathered himself.
He pushed himself up on trembling arms, chest heaving, and lifted his head with obvious effort.
Only one thought echoed through his mind.
Why?
Why had things gone so wrong?
According to his plan, Emma should already be overflowing with pity for him by now.
She should have stepped forward to defend him herself.
Instead, reality had delivered something else entirely.
He’d failed to smash his head open, and instead face planted into the floor in front of an entire room.
The looks from the crowd had shifted from sympathy to something closer to bewildered disbelief.
Rafael’s fingers curled into fists, knuckles going white.
The elaborate, carefully staged act of self–sacrifice he’d built from scratch had been completely and utterly ruined, all thanks to this
one man.
His gaze slid up through the ice wall toward Andre.
