Chapter 977 Surely the Other One Is Normal
Chapter 977 Surely the Other One Is Normal
The violent spatial distortion finally settled when the older cub fell asleep.
Deathly silence returned to the wilderness.
Rafael lay panting on the ground for a long time before he recovered.
He looked down at the cub in his arms.

Asleep, the baby was the picture of innocence. Long lashes rested against his cheeks, and his small mouth hung slightly open, making him look like a defenseless little angel.
Angel? This was a tiny demon of the highest order.
Hatred tightened Rafael’s jaw, and cruelty returned to his eyes.
The brat was asleep. Surely his ability could not activate now.
Rafael raised hands covered in honey, mud, and cactus spines and reached for the baby’s throat.
“You miserable brat. I’ll strangle you right now…”
His hand stopped halfway, before his fingertips touched even the cub’s clothes.
Images flooded his mind: the cactus thicket, the salt water, the charging beasts, and the venomous bees.
A violent shudder ran through him.
What if the cub possessed an instinctive defense?
What if touching him woke the little demon and sent Rafael into an active volcano or a black hole?
Cold dread poured through Rafael at the thought. His fingers shook uncontrollably.
His hand remained rigid in midair.
Then he snatched it back as though the baby were burning hot and clutched it against his chest.
He did not dare move.

Rafael wiped cold sweat from his face. The cruelty in his eyes had been replaced entirely by lingering terror.
Forget long-term plans. Forget controlling Emma.
He only wanted to survive.
Sniffling, Rafael endured the cutting pain throughout his body and staggered to his feet.
He cradled the tiny tyrant with the care one might give an explosive warhead.
Even his breathing softened for fear of waking the demon in his arms.
In the cold night wind, Rafael hurried back toward Emma’s castle, his clothes in tatters, his head swollen and full of spines.
He had to return the cub before Emma and the others discovered the baby was missing.
By phasing into air, Rafael sped through the night and passed easily through the Beast God’s outer defenses once more.
He slipped back into the nursery by the route he already knew.
Luck remained with him. The castle was silent, and no one appeared to have noticed the older cub’s absence.
Rafael released a quiet breath as his heart finally settled back into place.
He held his breath, reduced his presence to almost nothing, and moved as though carrying a nuclear bomb that might detonate at any second.
With his injured hands trembling, he lowered the sleeping cub into the crib.
Afterward, he even pulled over a soft blanket and gently covered the belly of the demon who had tormented him for half the night.
He dared not let the slightest disturbance wake the tiny tyrant.
When the cub continued breathing deeply without stirring, Rafael wiped his brow and released a long, shaken breath.
At last, he had returned the impossible burden.
