No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1017

When Noelle heard Emma talking about children, she quickly stopped her. "No, you misunderstood, Mrs. Greene. I'm not with him."

At least not yet.

Noelle saw Emma freeze up and then turn a bit embarrassed. "I'm getting ahead of myself again. It's just that you two are such a good match. You wouldn't have broken up if it hadn't been for my mistake."

Emma teared up at the mention of the past. Why would Cedric and Noelle break up if it weren't for what happened?

Noelle sat on the bench, gazing at the scenery. "There are many things we can't control."

Emma said solemnly, "Noelle, Cedric really likes you. It's definitely not out of guilt that he treats you well. He's not that kind of person."

Noelle nodded. "I know. I've remembered what happened during the car accident."

She paused. But since she had said it, so be it. She hadn't intended to keep it secret for long anyway.

Emma looked at her in surprise. "You remembered?"

Noelle nodded again. "Yes. I know he was the one who saved me. And he wanted to save my parents, too. But he didn't make it in time."

She added softly, "Thankfully, he didn't make it over there. Otherwise, he would've gotten hurt, too."

There was only enough time to save one person.

Emma stared at her, stunned. "This is the first time I've heard how dangerous the situation was."

Noelle was surprised. "Did Cedric never mention it to you?"

Emma shook her head. "No. He only briefly described what happened, but he never said a word about the danger. Maybe he told the police, but never once to us."

Noelle had mixed emotions about this.

"Noelle, Cedric may not be my biological child, but he's always been a good kid. I hope you'll give him a chance once the lawsuit with the Merlocks is over."

That evening, Cedric texted her, saying, "I have to work late. I had the folks at L Bistro make you something to eat."

Noelle hesitated before replying, "Got it. Thank you."

She stared at her message. Was she being too cold? After all, Cedric had just saved her life again.

She thought about it for a moment and then added, "Make sure you eat dinner on time, too."

She knew Cedric barely had time to eat whenever he got busy.

But after sending it, she felt it was too intimate. She quickly deleted the message, thinking he hadn't seen it with how busy he was.

Just as she was celebrating her quick thinking, she received a photo of his dinner.

Noelle instantly knew Cedric had read her message. And now that she had deleted it, didn't that just make things even more obvious?
