Noelle looked at Cedric and said, "Frank told me that Xenia's child isn't Wyatt's, just like I suspected."
"That's not exactly surprising."
"I'm guessing if Justin's the father. If that's true, wouldn't Xenia dream of marrying him through the baby?" Noelle said mockingly.
"That would be nothing but wishful thinking. His mom isn't someone to be trifled with, and in wealthy families like theirs, children have never been seen as assets, especially illegitimate ones," Cedric replied flatly.
Noelle remembered Brittany as an undeniably shrewd and calculating woman. It was a perfect example of the wicked meeting their match.
"Anyway, let's not talk about them. I almost forgot why I came," Noelle said, returning to the point. "Carl mentioned that once the lawsuit is over, he plans to leave. If Mrs. Greene's treatment isn't complete by then, she might have to return with him."
Sure enough, she noticed Cedric frown and clearly disapproved.
After a pause, he said, "We'll see when the time comes."
"That's what I told him, too. Who knows, Mrs. Greene might not need his help anymore. If we can get the antidote, detoxification shouldn't be too much of a problem."
Cedric agreed, but he knew there was likely something else behind Carl's words.
Carl wouldn't offer help so easily, yet he hadn't stated any conditions. Saying he wanted to return to the island might just be meant to test their reactions.
Cedric's mind spiraled with thoughts, but he kept them to himself. He didn't want Noelle to feel pressured or be caught in the middle. Instead, he'd find time to talk to Carl in private.
He'd never want Noelle to make any sacrifices.
Noelle glanced at the time. "Well, I've passed the message along, and I should get going now."
"I'll send you home."
"No need. I drove here."
Despite her words, he accompanied her to the elevator with silence hanging in the air between them.
Noelle looked up and saw their reflections in the elevator door, looking a little awkward and distant.
Cedric watched her car drive off as the corners of his lips curved into a faint, knowing smile.
Magnus came up beside him and asked, "Ced, are you both back together?"
"Mind your own business."
"So that's a no," Magnus said, raising an eyebrow.
Cedric leaned one arm against the windowsill. "We've got time. I'm in no rush."
His eyes drifted toward the entrance, where a disheveled woman was being stopped outside the hospital.
Magnus' expression changed instantly. "Isn't that Laura? How dare she come here?"
Cedric coldly ordered, "Get rid of her."
Magnus rolled his sleeves and gritted his teeth as he said, "Leave it to me." He'd been itching to deal with the Merlocks for some time now.
