Noelle took the documents and quickly flipped through them.
After skimming through the contents, she asked, "What exactly does this prove? Even if we expose Ivy as a fake socialite, it doesn't prove she has any connection to PZ Group."
"Look at the address. Her registered hometown is just 50 miles away from Xenia's. According to what I've found, a former participant of the socialite training class revealed that Ivy was adopted and sent away as a child," Jeremy explained.
Noelle gripped the paper tightly. "Does that mean all the background information we dug up on Ivy is fake?"
"No. It's all true, but it's based on her adoptive identity. She was adopted, and her biological parents are from the same area as Xenia. If anything suspicious is going on, it'll be tied to Ivy's connection with her biological family."
Noelle set down the document. "It all makes sense now. No wonder we couldn't find anything useful, no matter how hard we looked."
Cedric narrowed his eyes and asked, "What's the relationship between Ivy's family and Xenia's?"
"It's still under investigation. Back in those days, it was common for girls to be given away in favor of having sons, so we needed to sort through a lot of possibilities."
Noelle said, "Is that even necessary? Ivy and Xenia look so much alike, so Ivy must be a sister of Xenia's mom. There's no other way to explain it."
Jeremy nodded. "That's what I thought too, but my resources are limited. Interviews and background tracing take manpower, so you'll have to assign more men to follow up on this."
"I'll handle that," Cedric offered.
Jeremy gave Noelle a smug look and said, "So? I'm a pretty useful lawyer, right? At least I'm more useful than your boyfriend?"
Cedric's lips pressed into a tight line as he frowned.
Eugene cut in, "Everyone has their area of expertise. Let's just say Mr. Sulton covers a broader scope."
"What can I say? I've taken on all kinds of cases and am not like some capitalist. Plus, I take pro bono work just to do some good."
