Noelle was genuinely worried. If they couldn't catch Mike, then their entire plan would fall apart.
Cedric held her hand and said gently, "Don't worry. I've already sent people out to track him down."
"But how did Mike even get replaced by Laura in the first place?" She couldn't wrap her head around how quickly everything had changed.
"Do you remember that time we ran into them at L Bistro? After that, Laura went off on her own to meet with a bunch of mid-tier families. She persuaded them to work with PZ Group. And for those who weren't qualified to partner, she pushed them into buying PZ Group's investment products."
"Yeah, I remember that. But it's hard to believe she pulled all that off so easily." She was in disbelief.
He let out a cold chuckle. "People are greedy, and PZ Group has a decent reputation here. On top of that, they're pushing new energy projects, stuff that goes head-to-head with Maple Enterprise. It's not hard to earn people's trust with that kind of narrative."
Hearing his analysis made her feel uneasy. If that was the case, then PZ Group had already calculated them into the equation.
She frowned. "No wonder they started off with the investment in AI project. They had this all mapped out from the beginning."
She looked up at him. "Honestly, they're starting to scare me. If they ever find out we're trying to expose their scam and make them give back the money they stole, won't that put us in real danger?"
Messing with someone's money was like declaring war.
These people set up such a massive operation. If they found out someone was trying to stop them, there was no way they'd just sit back and let it happen. They'd do everything they could to destroy the evidence, or worse, come after her and Cedric.
Just like when she filed a lawsuit against the Merlock family, they tried every underhanded trick in the book.
But with Cedric's support, the Merlock family couldn't touch her. All they could do was scramble to cover their tracks.
PZ Group was different. For all she knew, they could be a group of complete desperados.
Cedric noticed her uneasiness and pulled her into his arms. "It is dangerous, which is why I'm actually thinking of going to the police."
