No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1385

Joe seethed. "How the hell can mountains be locked down?"

"It is locked down, Joe. They're not letting anyone in."

"Did they say why?"

"Some trekking group went missing up there. They're running a search-and-rescue."

Upon hearing that, Noelle's heart skipped a beat, and her pulse raced uncontrollably. It was Cedric, wasn't it?

It had to be. If their van hadn't broken down, they'd have been halfway up the mountains. However, Ivy's petty sabotage had caused the van to break down halfway, forcing them into this delay.

Now, they were stuck in Cedric's trap. Noelle almost laughed out loud at the absurdity. Who would have thought these abductors hadn't even made it into the mountains?

"What do we do now, Joe? Do we find another way around?"

Noelle chimed in. "I think we could just wait it out because rescue operations don't last long. They can't possibly lock down the mountains forever."

Joe glared at her and snapped, "Trying to stall for time, aren't you?"

"I'm just giving suggestions since you guys don't know how things work in Montrevia. I won't stop you from wanting to try a different route, but let's be honest, you're broke, aren't you?"

Noelle caught the flicker of embarrassment in Joe's eyes and continued, "My offer still stands. Work for me and ditch your boss, and all your dangers shall be resolved."

"Shut it! Who knows if you're trying to trick us!"

"Yeah. It's not like we're good guys looking for a happy ending either."

Noelle raised an eyebrow. "If you're so ready to die, why not just take your life right now? What's the point of cowardly dragging this out when your boss isn't even sending backup for you?"

Joe snapped, "We messed up, and it has nothing to do with our boss."
