Cedric arrived at the entrance of the scenic spot right at eight o'clock, just in time to receive a call from the abductors.
Standing at the gate, he answered it. "I'm here with the money. Where are you, and where's my girlfriend?"
"No rush, Mr. Greene. Put the money on the ground in the cable car up ahead, and make sure no one's following. My men are watching your every move, and if you pull any tricks, I guarantee you'll never see your girlfriend again."
Cedric's eyes flicked to the cable car that ran at ground level through the forest and climbed partway up the mountain. In daylight, it'd be a scenic ride, but it was long shut down at this hour.
The abductors had planned this well, and it was why they'd insisted on having the handoff at this hour.
Holding the phone, Cedric demanded. "Put her on the line. I want to talk to her."
"She's somewhere safe. We have to protect ourselves, too, since we'd all be dead within minutes with just one order from you."
"How do I know she's even safe? I'm not handing over a single dollar until I hear from her." Cedric firmly insisted.
The leader of the abductors, Alec Bane, gritted his teeth and said, "Mr. Greene, you locked down the entire mountain before we even got there, so I know what you're capable of. I'm not stupid enough to piss you off by harming your girlfriend.
"Plus, didn't she slip you a clue just a few hours ago? She said she was hot, and that's how you found us this fast."
Cedric pressed his lips into a thin line and said nothing.
It seemed the abductors weren't idiots. They'd figured out right away that Noelle must have tipped him off somewhere when they'd seen Cedric's team leaving the scenic spot.
Alec continued, "Since your men are all waiting at the border, you can always take us down if you can't find her."
Cedric thought about it before saying, "Using the cable car means you're nearby, and if I don't find Noelle soon, I'll make sure none of you will make it out alive. You can never run far; I'm warning you."
"We only want money, Mr. Greene. We don't care about her life."
After the call ended, Cedric kicked one of the suitcases in fury before turning to Magnus. "Nothing yet?"
"No. Hang in there, Ced. I'll join the search myself."
