When Carl pulled back the dusty tarp, he peered through the van's window and saw Noelle inside with her hands and feet tightly bound. He immediately sighed in relief.
Inside, Noelle had used up the last of her strength pounding on the door. The heat in the car was unusually high and almost suffocating, and she was already struggling to catch her breath.
All she could do was keep her eyes fixed on the sliver of light by the window and silently beg Carl to save her in a hurry.
"Just hold on, Noelle. I'll get help and get you out of there."
Just as he turned to leave, he suddenly glanced back at Noelle lying in the van. Calmly, he pulled the tarp back over the van and arranged it carefully before striding away.
Just then, Magnus and his men arrived after having searched the other side of the parking lot. He gave Carl an anxious look and asked, "Did you find anything?"
Carl shook his head. "No trace of her."
"Did you check really carefully? This side has few working lights, and maybe you missed her," Magnus said, eyeing him suspiciously.
"Noelle is my sister, so there's no way I'd have overlooked her. I checked every car one by one, and she's not here," Carl firmly replied in a calm and detached tone.
Then, someone asked, "Could she have passed out? Could that be why she hasn't been able to respond?"
Magnus nodded. "Good point. Let's try to pop every trunk open."
Carl narrowed his eyes slightly, but his expression stayed calm. "That's a good idea, but we'll need more people to get it done faster."
Magnus pondered briefly, then nodded and immediately took off to gather more hands to help search the trunks.
As Carl watched him leave, Donovan approached and said, "I checked the other side and found nothing. Like I told you, no way she'd be hidden here."
"What about Frank and Blake?"
