The surviving abductor hadn't been afraid to die until he took a bullet. Now, all he wanted was to keep breathing. He gasped out, "We hid her in the parking lot!"
Blake and Frank exchanged a sharp look. "No way. We searched the entire lot just now, but there was no sign of her."
"Last chance. Where is she?" Cedric's eyes narrowed as he drew a gun and pressed it to the abductor's temple.
"I swear I'm not lying—she's in the parking lot! She's in a van way off in a far corner and hidden under a tarp so that you might've missed it.
"I'm telling the truth! The rusty van broke down on the way here, and that's why we arrived late."
Cedric didn't wait for him to finish as he turned and sprinted toward the lot.
Just then, Magnus and his gang of street punks arrived with a locksmith in tow. He spotted Cedric rushing toward him and asked, "Ced, what's going on? Did you get word where she is?"
Cedric barked, "They said she's here in the parking lot and hidden under a tarp."
"Only a few cars are covered here, so they should be easy to find."
Within moments, everyone was combing the parking lot and yanking the tarps off over a dozen vans. Soon, they narrowed the search down to the single van parked in the corner.
As Cedric stopped beside it, his heart pounded violently in nervousness. This had to be it now that it was the final van, and Noelle had to be in there. But when they tore the tarp aside, the van was empty.
Cedric felt the air squeeze from his chest like his heart had throbbed. For a split second, it felt as if his world had collapsed.
Magnus grabbed his arm to hold him up and said, "She must be in the trunk! Quick! Open it!"
