Alfred looked at Mia and said, "Doesn't matter. They'll just try to smear us and drag down our reputation, that's all. We're not going to be in danger from that."
Mia relaxed a little when she saw that Cedric said nothing.
She was worried that he might care about it.
Just then, Eugene answered a call and turned to Cedric, saying, "We just got in touch with the boss of the scam center."
Cedric's eyes lit up immediately. He stood up and stared at Eugene. "What did they say?"
"The boss said that he didn't take Noelle at all, that all of this has nothing to do with him."
Cedric squinted. "Are we supposed to just believe him because he said so? He even told the abductors to kill Noelle back then!"
Fortunately, the abductors were only after the money and did not do as they were told so as not to make an enemy of Cedric.
Otherwise, he would only be looking at Noelle's corpse by now.
Eugene replied, "We will still have to investigate further about it, of course. We don't know if what he said is true or not."
Mia added, "I think the boss of the scam center would have reached out to us if he really did take her. I don't think that's likely what happened.
"Noelle was probably taken away by someone else. Could it be someone working for Ivy? Or perhaps the Merlock family even? But they don't really have the power to do such a thing now."
They would be the only group of people left that still held grudges with Noelle, as even Sean had already died in prison.
Cedric spoke up with difficulty, "Keep looking. We should also investigate Ivy and the Merlocks. We can't afford to overlook any and all possibilities."
Just then, a man ran up to them to make a report, "Mr. Greene, the abductor has already passed out. Other than revealing a lot of information about Ivy and the scam center, he insisted that Noelle was hidden inside the van."
Eugene added on, "If we assume that he was telling the truth, then someone must've discovered Noelle and taken her away."
Alfred looked over to him and said, "Is it by people working for the scam center's boss? Or is it by one of Noelle's enemies?"
