Donovan turned and glared at Wyatt. "Shut up. Noelle is also part of the Liddells."
Upon hearing this, Xenia's jealousy nearly consumed her. Noelle had severed ties with the Liddells; who did she think she was to be considered a Liddell?
Noelle snatched back her invite from Samantha. "You've seen it. Now give it back."
Samatha's heart twisted in frustration. She'd examined the invite carefully, only to learn that it was real and the name hadn't been tampered with.
After seeing Xenia, she sneered in disdain. "Is the Liddell family even worthy of receiving an invite?"
Xenia smiled. "Of course. Mrs. Cantrell extended the invite to Donovan himself."
"Ha. What a family of nouveau riches." Samantha snorted and stormed off. She swore not to let Noelle off the hook tonight.
Noelle held up her invitation. "Take a good look. I was invited, too."
With just one glance at the card, Donovan immediately guessed Mia had sent it. He hadn't expected them to have such a close relationship while his interactions with Mia had cooled.
After a moment of silence, he said, "Since you're here, you should stay with us as a Liddell. Improving my relationship with the Cantrells is a good thing for you, too."
Noelle shot him a mocking glance. "Absolutely not!"
She had no intention of showing the Liddell family any respect; things were bound to get ugly tonight.
Wyatt furiously chimed in, "Donovan, you promised she wouldn't come!"
Xenia lowered her head and pitifully said, "Donovan, I told you I wanted that dress, and you said it was sold out. But now, Noelle's wearing it. I know I'm not your biological sister, but why did you have to lie to me?"
Donovan's temples throbbed with anger. "When did I lie to you? Noelle got that dress on her own."
Truthfully, Noelle was more capable than Xenia now. That realization struck Donovan, especially after the tech summit, where their AI development was far behind Maple Enterprise.
