No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 661

Noelle began to wonder why Anastasia wanted to meet her. No matter how she thought about it, the reason could only be one of two things: either acceptance or rejection. But she felt that the latter was more likely the outcome.

Cedric frowned. "She just got injured and needs rest. I'll talk to Grandma."

Noelle hesitated. "Would that be okay?" She had heard that Anastasia wasn't in good health; what if the latter got too worked up and fell ill?

Cedric gave her a deep look. "Go tomorrow. I'll check on her first."

"Alright."

Noelle watched as Cedric left the ward and massaged her temples. Dealing with a wealthy, powerful family always meant more complications. She wondered what exactly Anastasia wanted to say to her.

After thinking about it, she sent a message in her dorm group chat. "I'm at the hospital. Call in sick for me."

Mia and Grace saw the text and rushed to the hospital. Noelle was surprised to see them. "Why are you two here?"

"You said you were injured and hospitalized. How could we not check on you?"

Grace even packed Noelle's favorite meal from the cafeteria and brought it over. "I was worried you had no one to take care of you, so I brought you dinner."

"Thank you, but I don't have much appetite right now." Noelle's throat felt uncomfortable and made it hard to swallow.

Mia frowned. "Why was there suddenly a fire?"

"I think someone must've tampered with something, but I'm not sure yet. It needs further investigation."

Then, Noelle leaned in closer to Mia and lowered her voice. "There's something I want to ask you."

"What is it?"

"Do you know that Mrs. Greene Senior is also staying in this hospital? She wants to see me."

"Young ladies like you will feel terrible if you have scars." Emma looked at her leg with concern.

Then, Ruth walked in reluctantly. She glanced at Noelle before sniffing disdainfully. "I thought Ced got hurt, too. Luckily, he's fine.

"He shouldn't have charged into the fire like that. What if something happens to him?"

Ruth's words were laced with the accusation. She was clearly blaming Noelle for Cedric risking his life to save her.

Noelle understood the meaning behind her words and sneered internally. Sure enough, the older the person, the sharper they were. Ruth's words were meant for Emma—no mother would be happy to see her son risk his life just to play hero, after all.

Ruth wanted to stir Emma's discontent, but the latter was unfazed. "Ced is a grown man. He's also skilled, and it's not a big deal that he helps someone in need."

That would be especially true if he were saving Noelle.

Noelle's eyes flickered with surprise. Did Emma not care? Or was she just putting on an act?
