From the expression on Emma's face, Noelle could tell Emma wasn't putting on an act.
Ruth was displeased. She looked at Emma and said, "What if something happens to Ced? I wondered who it was rushing over in a panic the moment they heard the news, and now you say you're not worried about your son?"
"Oh, Ced knows what he's doing," Emma replied casually. Though she was worried about Cedric, he was fine, and Noelle was currently the one who was injured.
Hearing that put Ruth in a foul mood, and she continued, "I heard that Mrs. Greene Senior has woken up. Why don't you come with us, Ms. Liddell?"
She was sure Anastasia would never like Noelle.
Emma stood up. "You're injured, Noelle. Get some rest. We won't disturb you any longer."
Noelle could only nod and say, "Alright."
As they were leaving, Ruth turned and shot Noelle a meaningful glance. "Since you're here and you know Mrs. Greene Senior is in the hospital, shouldn't you pay her a visit? She's your elder, after all."
A trace of coldness flashed in Noelle's eyes, but she said nothing.
Ruth turned away, annoyed. She had to find a way to stop Cedric and Noelle from being together.
Given that car accident, there was no way Noelle and Cedric could ever be together. Anastasia would never approve. Noelle had better have enough self-awareness to leave Cedric on her own rather than forcing Ruth to make her move.
After the two ladies left, Noelle lay on the hospital bed and was lost in thought. The thought of Anastasia being in the same hospital made her feel inexplicably irritable.
When she closed her eyes, she could still see Cedric rushing through the smoke toward her. He'd risked his life and shouted her name desperately. His voice had been urgent and full of worry. She clutched her chest and felt her heart pounding wildly.
"Are you feeling unwell?" A deep, pleasant voice reached her ears.
